Rain Mobile Feedback Thread

Sooo Eskom decided to stuff up my download test by introducing a power outage.... Bastards.

Guess I will have to try again tomorrow.

Perhaps invest in a powerbank for the router. Wise decision in hindsight

Found an Amazon product page and it shows the bands it supports. It will work however i can't say for sure it will do CA [Carrier Aggregation] so just be wary of that. It looks good though :D .
cavedog , new toy for you ? :p

FDD-LTE: B1 (2100 MHz)/B3 (1800 MHz)/B5 (850 MHz)/B7 (2600 MHz)/B8 (900 MHz)/B20 (800 MHz)
TDD-LTE: B38 (2600 MHz)/B40 (2300 MHz)/B41 (2500 MHz)
WCDMA: B1 (2100 MHz)/B5 (850 MHz)/B8 (900 MHz)
GSM/EDGE: 900/1800 MHz

Not worried about CA, I would like to implement these in a pilot project for industrial purposes. all i need is LTE, tried the Huawei routers but they are absolute cr*p

Well it supports both Rain's frequencies so it will work.

Yuu no it won't do CA because it's a normal Cat4 router. No LTE-A on cat4 routers. They compare with B315 in terms of supported LTE technology which is also a cat4 router.

So when is peak hours? 17:00 - 23:59? or 17:00 - 23:00?

Aaand 200GB, still no cap.....

Sadly today I am only getting about 5MB/s, even after a total reboot.

So at this stage, if you're not using their fixed LTE product sold through their partners, Rain will allow just about any LTE/LTE-A capable device with Band 3+38 support to run on their network?

Thanks cavedog

Just ordered a test sim, will post feedback on how it goes once received (planned for 20/6)

Yes Rain Mobile simcard basically works in any device that can do band 3 or band 38/41

Currently using a ZTE 283+ router. Max speeds I'm getting is 4MB/sec. Thought this particular router was LTE only and not LTE A.

Can you guys recommend another router where I could squeeze out more speed? I'm not complaining, happy with those speeds. Just wondering if I can squeeze more out of it :crylaugh:

Seems 4K video in youtube doesn't stream that nice. my connection speedtests show 50mbit +- most of the time.

Running chrome and going to youtube.
Search 4K video. Select any of them. Set it to 4K resolution (not just 1080p)
Right click on video, select stats for nerds.

Says there that while video streams, thinks(circle turning) and buffer going down to 0seconds
"Connection Speed 6587 Kbps" <-- it seems to go around the 6200kbps to 6700kbps tops which is 837kb per second

Which is not enough to stream or twitch 4K content. and won't netflix that either even if you wanted to.
