Rain Mobile Feedback Thread

is ur bill also gone up by R50 ? (i guess they charge a gig in advance... not 5c per meg in advance)?? and that un-used data gets carried over? or is it just mine that boosted to R179.032?

I swapped out my Telkom sim for the Rain one yesterday and to my surprise WhatsApp messages are still coming through.

I take it this means that WhatsApp isn't locked to your phone number, but the device IMEI instead. Learn something new every day I guess.

No it works off your app. You can receive whatsapp even with no sim or on a different phone with a different sim.

So some data was bleeding through to the Rain connection from my Lan even though it should only be wokring during off peak time. So went with a timer on the power supply. Now the router will only receive power from 11pm to 6pm.

Something weird on my dashboard.

Did not have uncapped enabled.
Enabled it today, dashboard indicates from 1 August.

My account balance on that card is now R50.01 but gigs used shows 0.0 gb

Will begin the painful task of contacting support

Edit: Ok I see the other post talks about this, restarted my session and it corrected itself on the dash

You could use the toolkit and use a scheduler to run it at certain times to change the network band to something that wont work (ie disconnected) and back again

Anyone else experiencing no connectivity although it shows that there is signal.

Am having connectivity problems on my Rain SIM. Strong signal - but no connection to the internet. Only site I can go to is rain.co.za. Trying to go to any other site (google, news24, etc) redirects me to rain.co.za.

Rebooting the phone fixes the problem.

Rain support suggested I move the data sim to slot 1 and reset the APN - didn't fix the problem. After a while I lose connectivity.

Anyone else experiencing this?

I had the same issue last week. Had to restart tp link to get it working again. Very weird problem.

Same here, only started happening first time last night. Except just switched to airplane mode on( disables mob network connection) and then re-enabled sorted things...

Just happened again a few mins ago...makes me think RAIN might be running some process each night that's affecting users.

Rain mobile is absolutely pathetic when I comes to customer service and a bit on their network side as well.

I first ordered 3 sims, all 3 sims got delivered but only two got activated after 24 hours. I spoke to them on Facebook about the one sim not working and told me that they are looking into it. A week goes by with no feedback even after sending multiple messages again on Facebook and all getting ignored.

I then sent them an email about multiple issues that I've been having with them and all I got back was,
"We apologize for the inconvenience however, you only placed an order for two sim card and paid for them now because of that only those two sim cards we're activated" and "Your inquiry has been resolved" when it clearly has not.

Why do they tell me that I've only ordered two sim cards when I have clearly ordered three when It shows me on my order and I got three sims delivered?!

Another thing that is completely crap on their network is that they don't allow unrestricted APN's, so you will not have an open NAT if you're gaming, I can't even mine bitcoin on nicehash anymore since I have started using them, I can't have any external access to my network due to them not providing each customer with a public IP.

Other than the unlimited data package that they offer, they are completely RUBBISH.

I have not had one single day of good service from them.
Just to respond/question to one of your issues about NAT and a dedicated public IP for remote access. You signed up for a mobile internet package which means it works like a data connection on all other mobile networks. All our traffic is routed/hidden by a range of IPs they use to break our traffic out onto the internet. I would hazard a guess that you may need fixed LTE-A access to get what you want ?

Strange that it works after rebooting the phone? Didn't they lock the sims to a list of devices that they only allow? Perhaps the that's the cause of this issue? When I had that issue, it wouldn't work after restarting my MiFi router thingie mabob...

Have a few devices (Samsung, Xiaomi) and the SIMs all work - but it's like the "session" times out after which I need to reconnect. Rebooting works (temporarily) and turning aeroplane mode on then off also works (temporarily).

Im getting my sim today hopefully really excited to test out their 19h uncapped internet

Can someone explain to me in real simple terms what is the difference between the Rain fixed LTE offered by Afrihost and others and the new mobile Rain LTE Data sim?

Rain Fixed LTE is from Rain company however they (Rain) do not sell it directly. They have resellers that sell it on their behalf. Axxess, Afrihost, IS and several other ISP's. Rain sets the price of the data and the resellers decide on how best to offer more value than the next guy. Thats why you will see 25GB package, 55GB package etc. They are similar from the various ISP's however Axess may bundle the B618 router for R999 while MWEB will bundle the same offering with router costing R2199. Its all a matter of finding who will give you the best bang and support for your buck. It is sold as a fixed product meaning the sim card will only work in very few routers, 6 routers last I checked. So unless you have one of those 6 routers then the sim will be useless to you even if you are within coverage.

Rain Mobile on the other hand is a 4G product meaning the sim card will work in any 4G device be it modem or phone. It is sold directly by Rain (no other resellers offer the rain mobile sim currently) and obtainable from their website. Unlike Rain Fixed LTE, you only have one data rate which is R50 a gig and you are charged only for what you use. They have a bolt on package for R250 a month and that gives you 19hrs of data free at off peak (from 11pm to 6pm the following day) and you pay during peak a standard price of R50 a gig between 6pm and 11pm.

Getting a Rain Mobile LTE sim will as it stands give you 15 days of free uncapped data to check it out and test the network.

Rain fixed LTE is locked to specific routers that RAIN chose for their network.

Rain LTE Data known as Rain Mobile works in any 4G enabled device/mobile phone
