Should rain be audited by an external auditor?

Rain is really pathetic, their deals really were too good to be true, after more than a month of trouble free internet use, I am sad to say that I have learned the hard way about cheap internet, for the passed few days I have not been able to access the internet, every time I call they just tell me to be patient and reset my router, I suspect that rain has more subscribers than they can cater for and it is now catching up to them

Working fine here. Just waiting for an all day uncapped option.

Hi @ Moejla, maybe if you provided more info as to what the issue is you are experiencing and which area you are in then maybe forum members in the area you have indicated might be able to assist.

There are many forum members here that are extremely helpful and all the info you can supply will assist them I diagnosing and helping you.

Mine is fine too, always above 50mbps, just now it routes to Cape Town instead of jhb from Durban.

My Rain connection is very inconsistent. When it is good I can get 30mbps up and 20 down, but when it is bad like it was this past weekend and today, at times I have no internet connection at all.
I have got a Poynting omni-directional antennae aimed in the direction that Rain gave me when I first subscribed which was a few years ago when Rain first came on the market.
I am thinking of changing to MTN fixed LTE

have you tried 2600 band?

I don't know which band I am using or how to select one. I have just logged into the router a Huawei 315, but I could not see any mention of which band I am using.
How do I try the 2600 band?

You need to get the Huawei Band Tool to try to force the band.

I found it linked on the forum here:

The ones you're looking to use are either the LTE_1800 or the LTE_2600TDD

I changed the browser I was using because I see my answer above is not shown and so I now see that you told me which batch file to try.
Do I just run it from where it is downloaded? If it makes matters worse how do I go back to where I was?
You will have realised by now I am pretty ignorant and in danger of damaging something.

You just unzip it to your desktop, and then go into the folder. Edit your config file with your own router credentials like so:

Run the bat file (LTE_2600TDD). If you want to set it back to auto, you just run LTE_ALL.bat. Once you've run the 2600TDD bat file, you can run the check signal strength bat file, and that will tell you what band you're on, and what signal stats you have like so:

I don't know what happened but two of my replies disappeared. I tried the LTE_2600TDD and the router would not even connect. Have now run the LTE_1800 batch file and the connection speeds are very slow 0.7, 0.3, 0.18 download speeds

Thanks for your information ghostbunny. You have been a great help. I see now my two "disappearing" posts have also returned

Glad I could be of some help :D the thing is with the 2600 band, it's faster, but it doesn't travel as far or as well through walls and stuff. If you can, mark down the position you have the antenna pointed at, then try move the antenna around to find another tower. Our 1800 band isn't great during the day, so we use the 2600 all the time now, but it required us moving the antenna around a bunch until we found the perfect position for it. If you manage to pick up any 2600 band towers, no matter how little signal, you could then find out the cell ID in your router, and then from there we can locate the tower, so you can have a better idea of where roughly to point it. The show signal strength bat file is great for fine-tuning the antenna.

Where can I find the cell ID

Where can I find the cell ID
There should be an area in the router named device information. The cell ID is a number string.

Settings>Device Information

Then the Cell ID number shows up over here.

I looked where you said but there is no Cell ID

I looked where you said but there is no Cell ID as can be seen below

I can't seem to find a way to display the Cell ID on the B315S, we have the B618-22D. In any case, you can keep that "Show signal strength" BAT file open, and when it shows 2600 20mhz on the reading, you will know that you are connected to the 2600 tower. If you can manage to find a signal to a 2600 tower at all, you can once again ask the rain support fellas to tell you which tower you are connected to, and they will give you a rough direction as to where to point it, from there it is up to you to fine-tune it as perfectly as you can to get full signal and a higher SiNR number.

For reference, ours looks like this ^

So in short, perhaps try forcing the 2600_TDD band BAT file, move your antenna around the house until you can pick up a signal, see what your SiNR is in the signal strength bat file, and then try fine tune it to be perfect as possible. I don't know if you will have a 2600 tower in your area, but here's to hoping.

Note that you must use the 2600TDD one, and not the normal 2600 one, the normal 2600 without the TDD will not work.

Since I have been fiddling with forcing the band my connection has gone from bad to worse. The whole weekend as well as today I only have sporadic internet and then the speeds are pathetic.
Using the Ookla Speedtest I only have a choice of connecting to servers in Johannesburg 70 km away no local ones as I used to. I am unsure if I understand it correctly but does that mean that I am receiving a signal from a tower in Joburg? It seems too far away. Right now Ookla won't even connect but the MyBroadband Speedtest does and this is the result
Ping: 1207ms
Download: 8.65Mbps
Upload: 0.08Mbps
This is the fastest D/L speed I have had for awhile but U/L is still very poor
The "Show Current Band" bat shows the followingCurrentBand.jpg
