Range Rover Velar

So have seen a couple of these on the road and... I am underwhelmed.. I am not sure why but it looks out of shape - certainly looks much better in pictures. Maybe i just don't have the eye for it in the metal
I have found it really stands out compared to the old and boring Range Rover shapes where I can't distinguish the models.

Besides this car is all about what's inside.

How the new Discovery which looks like a glorified Broodblik was designed next to this car is beyond me.

Range Rover Velar given the widebody treatment…

Like the look of the new Range Rover Velar, but think it should be even wider and lower? Well, the folks over at German tuner Startech believe they have the answer…

Set to go on display at the Geneva International Motor Show, the tweaked Velar boasts a full widebody conversion, along with fresh front and rear cladding. Interestingly, the company has also specially developed a set of extra-wide Startech Monostar M 22-inch alloys (wrapped in 295/35 R22 rubber, courtesy of Continental) for the project.

In addition, the ride-height has been dropped by a further 30 mm, with the firm’s 16-piece bodywork conversion kit adding 60 mm to the overall width of the Velar.

An optional “electronic sound generator” (yes, even for the four-pot diesel) ostensibly produces a “virtual” V8 petrol sound, which Startech says “thrills driver, passengers and the outside world alike without being annoyingly loud”.

Inside, various options will be offered, from accessories such as aluminium pedals to all-leather interiors “tailored to the customer’s individual preferences”.

542bhp Velar SVR to be quickest Range Rover yet

High-performance SUV is due in October with a supercharged V8 engine

Land Rover has shoehorned a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 into a Range Rover Velar to create its quickest SVR model yet.

The Velar SVR, as it is expected to be called, will go on sale in October as a potent alternative to the BMW X6 M, mixing Land Rover off-road ability with savage performance.

Insurance database information confirms that the hot Velar test car is using a 5.0-litre V8. It's likely to be Jaguar Land Rover's ubiquitous supercharged motor in identical form to the Range Rover Sport SVR's, producing 542bhp and 502lb ft of torque and giving the Velar SVR the ability to get from 0-62mph in around 4.2sec.

Although the Velar SVR, which has most recently been spotted testing at the Nürburgring, will be cheapest model so far from the Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) high-performance division, it is likely to rank as the quickest, due to its smaller size and lighter weight.

The aluminium-based Velar will receive a host of SVR weight-saving measures to bring its kerb weight down to about 1800kg. While still no featherweight, that would make it a significant 465kg lighter than the X6 M and close to 500kg less than the Range Rover Sport SVR.

SVO's engineers are finalising the car's chassis set-up, which will include new performance settings for the air suspension, including a firmer, sportier mode designed for enthusiastic driving.

What is the trouble with touchscreens, cleaning them?

And visibility in sun light / reflection. Its the same with cars with Piano black on dash. Looks amazing in pictures but sucks in real life.

Truck driver accidentally creates Range Rover Velar cabrio

A truck driver in Britain accidentally produced what is probably the world’s first open-top Range Rover Velar.

According to The Mirror, the accident took place on the M61 near Manchester last week after the truck driver (who was driving a car transporter full of expensive Range Rovers) forgot to lower the trailer's top deck after making a delivery in the nearby town of Bolton.

The other vehicle on the top deck, a Range Rover Evoque, was also damaged, albeit not as badly as it escaped the convertible transformation - although on a more sombre note, Land Rover actually does build an open-top Evoque.

The Velar’s roof went flying onto another vehicle after the impact with the bridge, according to the mirror, but thankfully its driver managed to avoid injury.

The driver claimed he’d forgotten to lower the top deck before re-embarking on his journey because he’d been distracted by a woman with a pram, who had asked him to move his truck out of the way.

I don’t know why but this Velar has me hypnotized. The only SUV I will buy with my money (if I could )

RANGE ROVER VELAR UPDATED: TWO NEW V6 OPTIONS, FRESH TECH

Think the vast Range Rover Velar line-up already offers maximum choice? Well, Land Rover doesn’t. So, as part of an update that includes fresh safety technology, the Whitley-based automaker has added two new engine derivatives to the already extensive range.

Yes, Land Rover has announced a pair of fresh six-cylinder engine options for the Velar. The first is the new D275, a 3,0-litre V6 diesel model worth 202 kW and 625 N.m, while the second is the new P340, a 3,0-litre V6 supercharged petrol engine producing 250 kW and 450 N.m. The brand has yet to reveal performance figures for these new mills.

The automaker furthermore says it will offers customers “a greater breadth of choice” when specifying their vehicles, including by offering the “Kvadrat premium textile seat” option more widely across the range.

Joining the Velar’s suite of driver assistance systems, a new adaptive cruise control with steering assist system operates between zero and 180 km/h and uses the existing functionality along with a lane-centring feature to steer the vehicle within its lane as it maintains a set distance from the vehicle in front. A “stop and go” function has also been added.

In addition, a new radar-based high-speed emergency braking system, operational between 10 and 160 km/h, is able to detect an imminent collision, alert the driver and apply the brakes if the driver fails to respond.

Land Rover furthermore says a reversing camera, parking sensors (fore and aft), a driver condition monitor, emergency braking and lane keep assist will be fitted as standard on all models.

The adaptive dynamics system will become optionally available on more models in the range, continuously varying the damping forces at all four corners of vehicle. The Velar is offered with coil springs as standard with four-corner air suspension now an option on all models with V6 engines, as well as on the 177 kW diesel and 221 kW petrol four-cylinder derivatives.

Land Rover has also fitted certain petrol models (the 280 kW 3,0-litre V6; new 250 kW 3,0-litre V6; 221 kW 2,0-litre; and 184 kW 2,0-litre) with a larger 82-litre fuel, up from standard 63-litre tank. All petrol engines are now also equipped with particulate filters.

Land Rover South Africa has yet to announce when these updates are expected to be rolled out to the local market.

Mansory gives Range Rover Velar a carbon makeover

Think the standard Range Rover Velar is a little too understated? Well, Mansory may have a solution for you. This styling pack adds a number of carbon-fibre elements to the exterior as well as some extra power to the 3,0-litre V6 turbodiesel engine.

As far as styling is concerned, Mansory has given the Velar a striking makeover in the form of a new front spoiler, side-skirts, door panelling, rear diffuser, bonnet, roof and boot spoiler, all fashioned from carbon-fibre. Even the side-mirror caps and front grille feature the lightweight material.

The upgrade furthermore includes a set of 22-inch “Spyder” forged alloy wheels by Mansory, with 23-inch items available as an option. Adding to performance is a software tune and a stainless steel exhaust system, which together push the D300’s engine up from 221 kW to 254 kW.

Although there are no images of the interior, the cabin of the Velar can be detailed by Mansory as well. Parts such as anodised aluminium pedals, illuminated door sills, custom floor mats and full leather upholstery are available to customers.

Shucks, sometimes less is more hey.

Mansory can really take things too far LOL
Didn't they do that sell-my-children-gorgeous all-carbon Aston Martin a while ago? This just looks like someone ordered some bits off ebay.

They did indeed!
Sometimes they get it absolutely right and then other times it just looks like a Boksburg Special.

They also did Manny Khoshbin's Bugatti Veyron and the Royalty Exotics Bugatti Veyron Vivere, both look absolutely spectacular!

I think the issue comes is when they do not follow the car's lines and they sort of forcefully try implement their own design on top of the car's design with wider body kits, scoops and so on, then it starts messing up the whole thing.

It makes all other wannabe SUV's look outclassed, Range Rover in general and this one in particular.

I still prefer the face-lift RR Sport though over the Velar, they have the same headlights but the RR Sport looks more beefy and sits higher from what I can see (I could be wrong).

That said, the Velar is probably the best looking SUV around, it belongs in a museum. I thought the Jaguar F-Pace looked great but they outdid themselves with the Velar. I'd hate to see one in a car crash.
