Raspberry Pi 2 Model B surprise launch, local pricing

Aw man, this sucks. I need to have a working model of an RP2 to secure an investment from an interested party,
for a project i have in mind. Guess you can't have your pi and eat it too :(

Will get mine and a bunch of other goodies end March, when I get my bonus - in the meantime my RPI - model B is soldiering on ... :)

Lol congrats kripstoe, dont forget to let us know how it went.

Ordered one today. Cart said 27 feb delivery - i think.
Thx.

Nothing to report really. I've been using my B+ and Raspbmc/Kodi for some time now. Last night I installed OSMC on the Pi2 and I'm very happy so far. The performance of the new model does seem to be a fair bit snappier than the B+.

At first I tried installing Raspbmc (which does support the Pi2), but it didn't want to boot. So did an install of Raspbian to confirm that the Samsung EVO MicroSD wasn't at fault. That worked, updated the firmware and went with OSMC Alpha4.

Build quality of the Pi2 seems solid. You cannot really fault it considering the price.

I am now tempted to order another one. :-\

No, they don't but the Sandisk 16Gig. And Samsung 8Gig. I bought a CNA, both work well in my model B, CNA seems to have a special on at present, bought 32Gig. USB stick marked R299.00, which was R50.00 cheaper than Incredible Connection, the till charged me R199.00 ...

32gb for R199 isn't that cheap, was it USB 3.0?

USB2 - doudt I could buy one much cheaper than that here in Bloemfontein, and not had to wonder if I was buying a fake card that would end up formatting to 2 Gigabytes or less.

Like the cheap Transcend ones that get sold on the street corners.

Received mine Friday afternoon late...

Played with now...downloaded openelec and updated it directly on the Pi.

Following was plugged in: Edimax wifi dongle, logitech mouse. Both I just plugged in and they worked.

I also dug out my old Pi (first model) and updated openelec on it.

Then I timed it, when they are in xbmc, and I click on reboot, the time from the screen went black until it has rebooted and the home screen of xbmc is showing:

Old Pi = 39 seconds
Pi 2 = 14 seconds

Its actually real fast and smooth in xbmc...much better than my OUYA that I'm using now for xbmc... think I must get a case for the Pi 2 and just use it for XMBC from now on.

And nothing happened when I toke photos with my xperia V and the flash. :)

Check the details of that SD card to see how long it will really last for.

I buy Sandisk or Samsung, and I try and buy from places that are likely to buy from the real local agents, and not grey market suppliers, even if it costs me more, for what is called piece of mind ...

How weird is this. Just found a brand new RbPi2 in a case, in our mens restrooms just sitting on the counter... Hopefully the owner contacts our facilities people.
