Hey guys, I just received a Raspberry Pi as a gift. I have no idea where to start with it though, I've messed around a bit with Raspbian but that's about it. Maybe looking into creating a media server/home streaming service? But that's about all I can think of doing with it at the moment.

Got 4 PI's plugged into our TV's each running Rasplex. And plex media server on a PC. Get the plex app on your phones, and you cast from one to the other, etc.

Raspberry Pi 2 + OpenElec + Kodi Remote on my phone has worked out great for us. Awesome little media centre

I'm running Motion on my Raspberry Pi 2 with a webcam that acts as a security camera for my backyard. It constantly checks for movement and, you guessed it, takes photos. You can customise a range of settings to alter the sensitivity.

It's also mounted out of my way, so I use ssh or tightvncserver/viewer to access it.

Thanks, probably should've used the search function! I'll probably turn mine into a media center using kodi or OSMC, they look like the most practical things I can do at the moment.
