I usually don't. Only have 300MB left on local-only, so have to share it nicely (and keep enough for MyBB and other sites).
You know, I have always had this argument about SA torrent sites wherein due to the constant politics and cat-fights between different trackers, the local p2p community, instead of being fostered, is divided. All these torrent sites seem to have this retarded elitist ideology about them, seeming to think that a VIP torrent site is going to do as well as one that is open and fostered by the community. Sure you get rid of a lot of noobs by requiring invites, but at the same time just think how many brilliant seeders and uploaders they are missing out on by being so completely snobbish.
And no, before anyone asks, I am not spiteful due to not being invited; I have several accounts with local torrent sites, only I am at the point where I would rather download from international trackers rather than deal with the childish crap from local tracking sites.
Seriously, the only way local p2p is going to flourish is through open (hell, even community-moderated) tracking sites that people can gain access to without having to beg for it.

afaict, the first obstical to a local based public tracker is the cost of hosting, not so much the space, but the exspected traffic. hope im not exspecting too much but maybe next year when the hobbiest can afford a speedy uncapped connection at home, s(he) could host their very own dot org.
secondly, invites ensure only trusted ppl join. someone asking for an invite in their first post can be considered not worthy of membership. also there's legal reasons to think about, our laws differ much from say sweden
What exactly are our laws on this matter? I mean, is there a South African law that makes the meta-data used by torrent trackers illegal, or are only the files themselves illegal? I'm sure SA law is not smart enough to have illegalized the meta-data used by trackers, so I doubt actually running a torrent tracker itself would be illegal.

Anybody can climb on here and tell us they have access to 50 Mbit fibre or a university account or a T1 line or uncapped. There is no way for us to verify those claims. There is a way though for us to verify their spirit of participation and committedness to the community. So those who participate get invited. simple.
+1, if the are able to intergarte into a forum and be part of the community than at least we have an incling of an idea as to who they are and there perdonality, I.E. some one who will H & R, limit UL speeds, etc.

Is any body willing to invite me please? I am not going to beg and plead cos thats just stupid. I have a lot of stuff to share, music, movies and series. Infact i have over 1tb worth of content. So if you worried that i will be purely a download whore, it just wont happen.
