hey guys,

i plan to get a new pc in the next month what operating system do u think i should use. Its going to be a quad core q6600 or q9300 (that new quad core killadoob mentioned - 45nm)

My needs are this i play online games (cod4, warcraft 3), i lan with my friends WHO USE WIN XP and i go to lans where i want to copy stuff e.t.c.

should i get vista x64 or win xp sp2 x64?

please help guys

dude stay away from windows xp 64 i loaded it up 2 nights ago to test it

driver support is shocking especially for printers, i could not decent ati drivers

shocking driver support

go vista x64 i run it and it runs like a dream
also whats nice about it is you dont need an anti virus because as far as i know virus's cannot attack 64 bit windows as easily as 32 bit windows

dont have a source but none of friends and myself have ever recorded a virus on 64 bit windows

i run avg once a month uninstall and carry on, its never picked up anything apart from a few cracks i have which are more backdoors than virus's

Stay away from Vista. While it may look nice and shiny, performance of games is horrible unless you have a mother of a PC. There are a number of bugs and glitches in Vista. XP 32bit is much more stable and reliable.

Never get Linux or Mac if you're planning to play games. ;)

Yip, driver support for Win XP x64 is horrendous!

Unless each piece of hardware specifically states that it comes with Win x64 drivers, don't do it!

I never noticed a difference in performance between the x32 and x64 versions anyway.

So, to recap, I suggest good ol' Win XP SP2 (32-bit).

Well with the pc I have and Vista Ultimate with SP1 I have had no stability or performance issues at all.

No BSODS nothing. All my games including COD4,Crysis ect runs buttery smooth.

I love Vista and will never go back to XP.

I think your PC qualifies as one of those "mother of a PCs" mentioned above... :D

lol

BTW: Buy my cpu people! It's in the classified section I want to get me one of those super sexy E8500's.

But killa if I get another 2gig I will have to install Vista 64bit and loose my entire porn collection I have worked so hard for.

just put it on another drive :)

your asking price for your cpu is the same as selling price man :) doubt your going to sell at that price

Stick with WinXP 32bit, will run like a bat outa hell on such a fast pc. (or go win2000 :) )

it is wise considering the e8400 is about 1.5k and stock its about the same speed

your cpu is worth 1.2k now if you lucky, who knows maybe im wrong

 They'll just run in 32 bit compatibility mode just like all the other 32 bit progs. So you would need an AV as always.

um guys thanks for all the advice. the thing is im going to have q6600 with 2gig DDRII 800 which should be enough to handle vista :D - wat version of x64 vista? ultimate? home?

also the thing is i dont think ill be getting as much out of my system as i can if i use 32bit windows. thats the main reason for me going vista. so far thats my decision. only thing is the cost :)
