I don't think that will help. The transit being used is geant.net which we reach via cogent. The owner of the IP is obvioulsy filtering (possibly limiting to research networks only).

Strangely http://www.uchicago.edu/ is hosted at rackspace!

It appears that U-Chicago (AS160) transits directly via Cogent (along with Level-3 and NLR).

I agree with the filtering theory. Doesn't look like they're filtering based on RENs and academic networks though. It appears, rather, that they've firewalled anything coming from 41.x.x.x IP address. This covers and impacts most of Africa. I've been able to run traces from a number of locations both locally and internationally and anything from a 41. IP does not make it.

I suggest someone tries to contact U-Chicago and ask them to look into this. Its probably a legitimate filter blocking spam from Nigeria or something ;) but some BOFH has applied it a little too broadly.

Such an intentional limitation is prima facie unlikely: the site concerned is explicitly designed for a general audience (and as the works hosted there are in older, public domain editions, is not as useful for specialist researchers).

What is the issue with Steam lately?

Sometimes it refuses to connect on iburst, so I have to connect my phone and use 3g, then switch back over to iburst once its running, thats some crap.

Also the internet is horrendously slow lately, like even google takes its time to load up a search....
Whats the point of having a 2mb modem really?
 
And now LTE is coming out at the end of the year, and I still have another 12 months to go on my 2mb contract.

That is terrific dudes, I would not have gone for the 2mb modem if I knew this a year ago, but hey atleast iburst makes more money.

WTF iBurst - Bad signal????

For the last few days (±14) the signal % were weaker (from ±60% down to 20%) and finally yesterday there were no signal strength (or should I say signal weakness??). The signal strength jumped between 0% and 5%. It's so bad that I even thought somebody stole my panel antenna or cut the antenna cable. Yes I have checked it and no the cable were not cut off and the antenna still points to where it did for the last 2 months.

I'm situated in Sunnyridge and the panel antenna points to Isando. I don't want to point it back to Edenvale town or Bedfordview as these towers are overburden and gave very poor speeds, that's why I pointed the antenna towards the Isando tower. For the last two months the Isando tower were giving me good speeds.

Could somebody from iBurst please go to Isando and switch the tower/s back on.

That is on. It is the chandelier on top of Teraco!
 
Getting some absolutely horrible speed here in my area, can one of you iburst reps PLEASE get some of your techies to look at this crap, its is worse than dial up on some services and gets worse every day.

These are not the kind of speeds I expect to be getting with a freaking 2mb modem and an omni antenna and for the price I am paying it is a total rip off.

Can you assist?
One of my client's WiMAX link has been down for 2 weeks. We restarted CPE a couple of times but no avail.
Client is in Montana, Pretoria.
 
iburst has been useless for the past 2 days. How am I supposed to be able to get work done with download speeds measured in BYTES per second to anywhere (if the downloads start at all, that is). ****ING ****, USELESS ****ING IBURST*. The only thing in your favour is you're not Telkom and mostly not any of the cell providers either.

* Funnily enough, the iBurst support number is saved in my contacts as "****ing iBurst". Way to go, team.
