So, in midrand today with laptop and that is result, although webpages like this seem to load ok
South Africa’s biggest forum. Discuss, discover, and connect with thousands of members.
OK - technician been here and tested. There is nothing at fault with my setup as I thought. The only problem has to be with the Iburst network.
How else do you explain:
.....regular 1Mbps for several years till about 2 weeks ago. Nothing changed on my side and now 400kbps max down and 50kbps up. Ping 150ms sometimes 230ms?
.....my desktop, my laptop, friends laptop through my network all have this problem?
.....have problem whether through router or modem direct into laptop?
.....friend nearby seeing a different tower has same issues?
.....that using my USB modem instead of the usual desktop modem gives same poor results?
.....that before 8am last Friday I got full speed up and down, but this slowed to a crawl after 8 for the rest of the day?
Iburst - my connection is virtually useless at 50kbps up. There is a network issue you are not prepared to admit to.

Hi Kaskop
Could you please foward me your contact details and utid number (00126) to [email protected].

I am trying to isolate a problem with my signal. From Sunday my signal is up and down from good to almost no signal at all.
Last night at some stage my signal was lost completely with the desktop modem giving me a red eye. This morning is much better but my speeds is half what it normally is.
I phone iBurst and the help desk let me check the MTU settings etc but no go. The funny thing is the default MTU settings of the TP link router was 1480 but that worked flawlessly for a month.
Any one had the same problems with a fix would be appreciated to comment.
I did sent my modem and contact details to to bubbles last night.
Connection being slower than usual recently but today upload is less than 0.1Mbps. In Pretoria. Cannot upload 5Meg email.
Any others experiencing similar issues.
No connection at all last night/this morning in Faerie Glen.
This week, I found once again that I was unable to access pages hosted on the University of Chicago's domain penelope.uchicago.edu, including the extensive site at
http://penelope.uchicago.edu/Thayer/E/home.html
I am informed by a person at their end that this is due to an IP-based block, instituted because "Someone from that domain is attempting repeatedly to hack into the server". The 196.2.*.* range has been temporarily unblocked, but I've no doubt the block will be reinstated in time.
IOW, it is alleged that there is a large, sustained volume of malicious activity against the server concerned, originating on domains associated with iBurst, and that this makes it essential for security to block iBurst IPs from accessing their sites.
Would iBurst care to comment on this?
Could you please foward me your account number and utid (00126) to [email protected],
So I can get the advance support team to have a look at your query.
