Ready, Steady, Cook...

I have:

- Flour
- Half a jar of peanut butter
- 1/3 Pack of raisins
- A lot of cooking oil
- Whipped cream
- Can of sweetcorn
- Opened box of spaghetti (Still a lot left though)
- a few tomatoes, 2 banana's and 1 cucumber
- plenty butter as well.

anyone have ideas? i'm kinda hungry..

Edit: I would of made a sandwich tonight but spar didn't have any bread rolls...so I just went home. I have a lot of spices though! Awaiting recipe....

Ok we could try some molecular gastronomy here

Chuck all the stuff you have into the bin EXCEPT for 4 rasins, a blob of butter, a thimbleful of peanut butter, eight ( and I repeat eight kernels of sweetcorn.) Plus Half a banana.
Keep the cream and bin everything else.

Now, get out the blender and blend the banana with the cream until its runny. Like shi*ts runny. Put aside.
On a hot stove melt peanut butter and butter in a pan until it forms a nice thin burnt crust, wafer thin, mind, and lift out with a spatula and allow to cool. Set aside.

Now comes the tricky part: get on the phone and call Afrox and order a tank of liquid nitrogen to be delivered pronto. (They'll want to know how many stairs)

Ok now , and don't forget rubber gloves, pour a healthy cup ot two of liquid nitrogen into a stainless steel bowl. It'll be all smoke and sh*t but don't let that distract you.

Pour the banana mixture into the steel bowl and whisk rapidly until it shrinks, freezes and peaks like ice cream.

On the peanut crisp place a dollop of ice cream on top. Chuck the raisins and corn kernels into the liquid nitrogen for a second or two then make a smiley face on the ice cream with the shrunken corn kernels for eyes and the raisins as a smiley face.

Enjoy.

I think i just pissed my pants. :D  :D

i didn't think it was doable, and even managed to stump the mighty DJK himself.

I vote this as the best post ever - thanx man, you Rock!!

I'll share my famous spaghetti recipe seeing as everyone seems to have at least a pack of speghetti and some tomatoes in the cupboard. It's easy to make with lots of variances and different common ingredients.

You'll need the following:
1x 500g spaghetti (I prefer linguini, oval shape makes it stick less, so less oil required)
2x Slicing tomatoes, or any old ripe tomatoes
2x Cans Italian chopped tomatoes with herbs
2x Table spoons Tomato/Olive/Basil Pesto or Tapenade
(They all work well and give different flavours to the dish, olive for a bit of a sharper taste
Can substitute the Pesto with plain tomato puree if you're really broke ;)
1x 500 lean mince (extra lean even better)
1x mixed veggies (optional - carrots and broccoli work well)
Big dollop of original recipe chutney (not peach or hot chutney) to sweaten a bit
Some good old All Gold or a 3/4 glass of red wine (yummy!!) if you want it a bit more saucy
A nice palm full of Origanum spice(Don't have to be shy with the spices)
A nice palm full of Italian spices (Bit less than the Origanum)
1.5 teaspoons salt (Can also add soy sauce or worcester sauce, but do so sparingly)
Grated Parmesan cheese
Olive oil

I always get the ingredients from woolies, it just doesn't taste the same if the ingredients are not fresh and good quality.

To prepare:
- Brown the mince on high in a 2-3l pot adding half a spoon of salt while doing this (5min)
- Chop the tomatoes and veggies into small dices while the mince is cooking
- Add the 2 cans of italian chopped tomatoes and the chopped ingredients to the mince
- Add the pesto, spices and another 1/5 spoon or salt/soy/worcester sauce (Not too much!)
- Now add the chutney to sweaten and taste after stirring (If it tastes a little sour, add more chutney, but remember... you can always add a little more as you go along, you can't take any out again :p
- Stir and let simmer on low heat (1-2 on plate) for 30 minutes at least (The longer the better, it can cook for an hour and a half if you want to)
- If you can smell the dish from the other side of the house, it's ready!
- Get another pot (4L+) and add about 3L of water, bring to the boil and add the last 1/2 spoon of salt and about 2 table spoons of olive oil. Do this about 30minutes before serving so that both the pasta and sauce are ready at the same time
- Dish up and top with parmesan cheese
- Drink the rest of the red wine ;)

Any suggestions to make this recipe better are welcome (If thats possible )

Not sure that you want anything leaner than lean meat. The bit of fat adds to the flavour.

Also not too sure on the vegetables.

And seeing as you are shopping at Woolies - get one of those little packs that have chillis, garlic, and ginger. Belt the whole of that into the mix.

Corriander finely chopped can also add an interesting variant.

a bit late, but here goes:

if you have an egg, you can make sweetcorn fritters:
1x can sweetcorn
1xegg
about 1 cup flour

mix together in a bowl. add enouhg flour to form a dough (about 1 cup). Pour a little cooking oil in frying pan and wait for it to heat up. Put spoonfulls of mixture into pan and fry golden on both sides.

Alternatively, if you've got some chicken (frozen chicken pieces is fine), make sweet sweet chicken and spaghetti:

spaghetti
chicken
peas and corn (or in your case, can of sweetcorn)
soy sauce (if you don't have, just omit)
sugar
flour/maizena

fry chicken in some oil until tender. remove bones (if any) and cut into smaller pieces. Put back in pot, add vegetables and a bit of sugar (depending on how sweet you want it). mix some flour/maizena with water to thicken sauce in pan. Cook spaghetti until done. Mix everything together and enjoy.

I am going to make DJK's arrabiatta pasta recipe for dinner tonight.

If you do not see me on the Forum tomorrow .... it was nice knowing y'all :D

Make a Welsh Rarebit Mock Souffle.

Pre-heat the grill to med/migh
Separate the egg whites and yolk (one egg per slice of bread).
Grate the cheese and mix with a little mustard, salt and white pepper.
Mix in the egg yolks now and beat this till it's all incorporated.
Beat the egg whites in a clean bowl (or they won't stiffen) till they form stiff peaks.
Now fold a little of the egg whites into the cheese mixture retaining as much air as possible.
Now pour the cheese mixture into the egg whites and fold in really carefully, again keeping as much air in as possible.
Spoon this mixture onto toast and place under the grill until it rises and goes brown.

Serve with some fried boerewors if you want to...

This is what the "Mock" Welsh Rarebit Soufflé looks like - was lunch today:

1. The pan is dirty

Yes, that's because the topping that I spilled burnt on to the pan while cooking and I find washing it a lot easier once the food is actually off the pan. If you're talking about the general condition, it is a very old pan and that's what they do discolour like that - what doesn't kill adds flavour...

2. Did you eat all 4?

No, 2 for me and 1 each for my nieces who I am looking after today...

How many eyes does your smiley face need?

4 for each eyebal - remember, the Liquid Nitrogen will shrink the kernels.

On to my next question. How much further do you want the grapes to shrink? They're already sad, pathetic shrunken grapes.
