Good day all,

I would like to have a view of the BMW 320d's diesel consumption (realistic figures) from people that use the vehicle, and not as claimed by manufacturers. I am currently using a VW up! for 80km commute, giving me 4.4 - 4.8 l/100km.

Also, rough figures for non-dealership service costs please.

Thanking you kindly

Your claimed city driving figures are beyond what a 320d can achieve in town only driving (highway driving is another thing tho)

Check out this: https://www.fuelly.com/car/bmw/320d

Service costs are very reasonable. The vehicle generally only needs oil, oil filter, air filter, brakes (and perhaps a few other consumables) serviced. If you are looking to get an estimate on parts, give these guys a call for a quotation: https://imcomex.co.za/ and if you looking to get a price on labour costs, call up someone such as: Ross Duncan or https://www.tunetech.co.za/

*I am basing my opinion of 5 years of 320d ownership and my actual consumption figures.

Thanks (T)man

I am not looking for exactly the same consumption, as I know I will struggle to get that, but as close as possible to it in, well any, sort of decent vehicle that won't break the bank. I had a 2007 320i (e) and loved it, so was thinking of the same style, but with better consumption

Fuelly stats are very real world and a true representation of reality rather than the laboratory manufacturer testing.

Can usually also find an exact model year and location match on more popular cars like these which goes a long way.

It really depends on what type of driving you do.

On a trip from jhb to durban, fully loaded car, doing around 125km/h, I average around 5.2 (I can normally get down there, drive around and get 3/4 back before I feel the need to fill up)

Town driving only, its not great, expect around 7l/100km or so ( i do drive a bit heavy footed)

Mixed driving, expect around low 6's

This is based on my current 320D, 49000 km of driving

Thank you!

My 2014 320D averages around 6.1 L/100km for my daily commute which is a mix of highway and town stop go. I could get it lower if I drive more conservatively in eco mode.

High way driving to say Durban it averages around 5.0l/100km with a full boot and 4 adults.

Petrol cars are now matching diesel consumption, diesels losing their flavour

Assuming the 220d and 320d should be similar in consumption, or am I wrong?
