Reccomend a Media player

Mede8er is popular. It's also a bit more expensive than the others, some say it's worth it. I own a mede8er and a friend recently bought a AC Ryan HD2. From the 10min I spent playing with his I'd say they are very close. I think I might actually like the AC Ryan remote more although it weighs almost nothing which takes away from that comforting feel any remote should have



I know HiFi corp sell some of the Mede8er models. Not sure about the others, but Esquire sell both the Mede8er and AC Ryan and anyone can sign up for an account.

Well I can get the Proline LCD for R5700 and the LED for R6200 so that's why I was tempted...deep down I knew plasma is the way to go. Interestingly enough I have a Mecer HD ready 37" LCD at the moment ( free gift no less )approx 4 years old. I see no problems with sport or any HD content. Quite the contrary.

I probably will get the Samsung 42" C450 series HD ready for R 4999 By the way, as far as you know...is the e.g. 42" the viewable screen size , corner to corner, or is it partial (screen under frame) ?

Okay, well you should take what you know of the 37" LCD to the shop and then check out 42" and 50" plasma playing sport and SD TV. One reason you might be happy with the 37" is because it's pretty small and so there is less distortion. 32" LCDs, entry level, are normally pretty competent at playing SD TV and slower paced sports because of their smaller size. Much more forgiving to lower resolutions.

You can get the PS42C450 for R4,999? Would be an absolute steal, I paid about R6,000 for mine. Unless you are talking about the PS42C430. Still a great TV for what you want it for and excellent value at R4,999.

I am so thrilled with SD TV and sport on my PS42C450. I'm a big sport watcher. Couldn't be happier, I know that nothing around R6,000 beats it.

I'm sure it's corner to corner. Let me measure.

I use a WD TV Live ( http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=330 ) hooked into my home [CAT-5E] network.

The media player sources files from the PCs in my study, then plays them through a Rotel hub -> TV.

Being hooked into the network allows the unit to download firmware upgrades (approx monthly), watch stuff off YouTube etc.

The unit has been operational for about six months, and thus far I am very happy with it ...

The networking can be iffy but once you have it working it continues to work. Wireless with an adapter - I connected a Netgear wifi adapter (http://www.netgear.com/landing/WNCE2001.aspx). Or connect a hard drive and load everything on there. We're very happy and it cost us R800.

I have a PC, running Windows 7 connected to the TV serving as a media center and VM host. Bought a cheap remote from bid or buy and it works beautifully.
Before that I bought a Danny media player. Also cheap and works great. The graphics was never HD but most series downloaded never is.
Another cheap way is a DVD player with a USB port. See at some places the cost a few hundred. Then a memory pen or three to load the series on.

Its all about how much the budget is for a thing like this.
