Hi guys.

Any recommendations for a bank account?Im thinking of changing banks
I currently have a standard bank savings plan(not even sure what it is,but i feel like they charge me for every little thing)
It has one debit order on there, and my salary gets paid into it.
I also have a capitec global one used for purchasing fuel.Capitec hasnt really given me any issues except for one problem recently however im not sure its their fault to begin with but im not sure how helpful they'll be while i try and resolve it.

Im looking for a card that will double up as a credit type card as well(for online purcheses etc) like the capitec card does.
Something that i can use without worrying about too many bank charges and stuff

Looking forward to hearing from you

P.S if you have a particular account in mind, please add the name of the plan so i can research it in detail.
Im not sure where to start

You mentioned it already. Capitec!! FTW

They also have a credit card launched now.

Capitec. Close the Standard bank account otherwise if defeats the money-saving purpose...

You already have what you need in my opinion. Move your debit order and salary to your Capitec card, it is the cheapest option for your general needs.

Wish Capitec can bring out a basic no-frills SME business account. Just the option to have your business name as the account name and not your personal name. All suppliers and vendors require this to be able to do business with them.

Old Mutual Money Account

Old Mutual money account is easy to use and the fees arent too bad. R4.50 monthly fee, you get cellphone and internet banking with it. And the fees are low. You can also turn the card off via a cellphone app if yourr paranoid about it being used fraudelently. They also prompt you to approve internet purchases before the payment is processes from the bank.

Its really a cheap account and still very unknown. Similar to capitec but in some cases cheaper.

Also international rates they ask lower fees than capitec. Ie R35 for cash withdrawal where Capitec is R50. You can also follow it much easier when travelling too.

The problem with Capitec is their security. Have a look at hellopeter. There is a lot of fraud on their accounts mainly before anyone from a supermarket can type the wrong account and withdraw the money without checking properly and then they will turn around and say its your own problem.

Earning < 10k pm: Capitec
Earning between 10k and 100k pm: FNB Gold/Premier/PC/PW and get to eBucks RL5 to make it worthwhile
Earning > 100k pm: Investec

FNB. They have decent online banking too if you refuse to go an actual bank like me.

All valid points.Capitec's Internet banking portal isnt all that great though.I do online banking alot.
I know FNB has an immediate eft feature that costs extra. That is pretty convenient.
I was looking at the gold cheque account, maybe start earning ebucks and the like.

The main thing is,the standard bank account is just sucking money from everything i think,so I can always move over to capitec but i didnt really want to use that as the main account

Don't know about Capitec but the other 4 big banks all have immediate eft facilities.

Pure BS.

Earn money - Capitec.

What should a bank do? Allow you to use and store money, why the fck will you pay exorbitant fees for a facility that can cost you zero.

Capitec pays me to be a client since my interest shadows my monthly costs.

Capitec is a budget banking service & there are a lot of things cut out as a result. e.g. Outgoing SWIFT transfer, financing, sharetrading etc. So its definitely not "Pure BS" - Capitec is aimed squarely at people with simple banking needs and complexity of banking needs generally correlates with income.

The SWIFT thing alone means I've never even considered them.

Bank of Baroda seems to have been a popular option, if you are fairly wealthy...

:)

Also the internet banking looks like it comes from the 90s compared to fnb!

Yes I do have capitec account, just as back up with some my savings in it.

I agree the swift out is a pickle but then again it's not a issue really.

In my case

Sharetrading - EasyEquities and GT247

Swift - Bitcoin

Financing - define financing?

For purely transactional day to day banking - Capitec is really good.

For anything else - Investec is by far the best wholly integrated solution for all your needs.

Capitec have both a debit and a credit card. I receive a regular payment from overseas via Capitec without hassle, was able to use the Capitec card in Europe and USA

I had an Investec account for 22 years and while they were mostly efficient, their scale of fees found me paying R900 a month for services I seldom used. Then, on three occasions their rep failed to turn up for an appointment
