Recommend a <R3000 camera

It may be.

Thing is I'm almost certain my fears are groundless but it's that almost part that's holding me back. Locally the LP-E4 and LP-E4n's my two main cameras take go for R1895 and R1995 respectively. To date I've yet to buy spares (I've never run out of battery power) but considering the price of the cameras they go in I'd probably pony up for the genuine article.

Ouch! What's their mAh ratings? This camera's is 1000mAh, but after an odd 50 photos, it still hasn't lost a bar. I just don't want to be in the middle of a day's touring and run out of juice, that's my main concern.

The Sony NEX cameras will give the best picture quality for your budget. These have proper APS-SLR sized sensors so they will not have the same fall-off in IQ that compacts have under low light.

The one drawback is that it does not have the zoom range that you wanted. You may also want to check if the specific version of the lens that comes with this offer has image stabilisation built in.

On the topic of batteries ..

I bought a pair of batteries for my Fujifilm on ebay from China.. R150.00 for 2 including shipping. The original Fuji battery costs around R400 for one.
I can honestly say that I haven't noticed even the slightest difference in performance between the original and these clones.

Obviously that doesn't mean they're all ok though.. I'm sure theres a fair amount of duds on ebay.

2300/2450mAh - I can get 3000+ photos out of each in their respective cameras (Canon 1Dmk3/1Dx) - I don't have an exact figure but I've never dipped below 30% as far as I can recall. The camera/battery tells me when I need to do calibration charge.

So i've been looking at getting a quality point and shoot camera for a while also in the R3000 range. I've been reading a lot and i'm leaning toward the Sony DSC-HX20V. http://www.photographyblog.com/reviews/sony_cybershot_dsc_hx20v_review/

I'm in India the moment and it'll work out to about R3200 if I just swipe for it.

Any options on this particular model? Reviews seem very good.
And it looks like it'll fit my need of quality versatile point n shoot.

I've looked at the Canon sx260hs and not a fan of the general design, than also the Panasonic Lumix TZ30 i think it was. Doesn't seem to be on par with the sony from peoples comments.

Edit: after looking and almost going up to the HX50V I think I always try overspec will just go with the baby brother HX10V. Nice and cheap at R2.5k with all the features I'd use.
