Recommendations for replacing ripped car battery

Damage looks superficial from what i can see in the pics, if so slapping on a new battery should be fine, that way you can either see if its working and leave it be, or at least be able to drive it for inspection.

Jump start the vehicle and drive to the dealership?
First get the cables sorted and everything properly insulated, we don't need more drama. Just to note that some cars are not going anywhere without a battery, I experienced that on a 2006 Fiesta, the car can idle but the accelerator just does not give gas and the car dies as soon as you step on the accelerator.

Get an auto electrician to take a look at the car, I am sure a temporary solution can be made to get the car moving, there aren't a lot of complicated things with the battery, it is a negative and a positive wire with a couple of fuses, anyone with a clue would easily put that together to get the car moving. I don't know the implications of warranties/insurance and all that when doing something like that so consider that.

+1 on the auto electrician. We had a number of vehicles broken into last year at work, as in close to 40 cars out of action (if not more over a few months), an auto electrician quoted on all of it and we towed the car there to have it fixed. It's was I think in the region of R8000 per car including a new battery.

Same story by the way, the MF's broke a window, opened the bonnet and fcking ripped the battery out damaging quite a few things.

You are assuming.
I made an assumption which does not affect the advice the OP was seeking, and I didn’t try to dress it up as a fact, rather I made sure that it was clear that it was an assumption. And yet you’re annoyed with me because I made a logical but essentially irrelevant assumption? Or are you just pissed off with me for something else?

If others are interested in what happened then let them be, what if it was an accident where the car rolled or something?
It’s obvious what happened. Sure the OP’s grammar was a little flexible in places but everyone else managed to get what happened.

If the car was in an accident and rolled do you honestly think the OP would be posting pics of his battery clamps? If you’re going to invent scenarios do try to make them vaguely plausible. If the car rolled it would be at a panelbeater.

Do you still want to assume and police this thread as if it was stolen?
How you get from clarifying what the OP said to me trying to police the thread I’m not sure.

At no point did I try to stop anyone posting whatever they want. I just answered your buddiy’s question and mentioned that what he was asking is actually obvious from what the OP posted. And yes I’m still going with the battery being stolen. It’s obvious.

What if it was theft, at least then other members will know that people somehow gain access to engine bays to steal batteries so they know what to avoid.
Exactly how am I preventing the OP from confirming that it was thieves and telling us how they got access to the engine bay?

Look, I get it, you don’t like me and you want to pick on me, and that’s fine, but don’t blame me for stuff that’s got nothing to do with me.

Calling an auto electrician out for a quote is going to cost money, and he’ll still want the car towed to his workshop. Just have the car towed directly to Honda. Let them fix it, and let the insurance pay them.

This would be the easiest route yes.

Yup... and then find a new insurance company or broker after the fact.

we had 2 wheels stolen from one side of a car, and they were ordinary steel wheels.

so ripping out batteries, totally possible,

what would I do? try get the vehicle moving by jury rigging a battery,
go to honda (under warranty) and get them to change the terminals.
I'm pretty certain that's an insurance, rather than a warranty, claim.

Happened to a friend of mine as well, only they used a panga or something and cut all the cables and stuff (taking the terminals with them).

Very possibly, but insurance seem to be fscking him around, so just drop it off at the one place you know will repair and maintain the wrranty... and then get pissy with the insurance company for wasting time.

Thanks @MrMag and @Sinbad. Thanks - yeah meant ripped out the engine bay.
Yeah we have contacted insurance but they are taking their time and not being helpful - even asking us to supply them with quotes. Getting quotes is difficult as moving the car requires towing and although that will probably happen, will require going through insurance on that too.
If anyone has ideas, we stay in the Sandton area of Joburg (Katherine street)

This is an interesting one and I may be wrong but you should be able to start the car with another car and as long as you don't stall get to the destination.

@Sinbad? Am I wrong? Never tried this **** without an actual battery present.

Failing that use the battery from the working car and try it and take it to the shop.

You are right, it'll start and run. Though as mentioned above some cars don't like it and cut off.
At least it means my logic isn't broken.

But why not? I can't think of a possible risk.
I heard horror stories where electronics get fried, namely computer boxes, though many other things could have went wrong in those stories I wouldn't risk it.

If it were me, I'd slap my car battery in the GF car and drive it to the auto electrician that way, the risk is just not worth it imo.

P.s I've run my old hyundai this way back in the day, but that was carbureted. Much less electronics.

I tried that on a a 2006 Fiesta, it can start but the accelerator is just pap and does not give gas and the car stalls. My Corsa lite can handle it with no issues.

I would argue you are more likely to fry something putting the wrong battery in the car than no battery at all.

So there is probably some kind of diagnostic voltage check loop in place.

I did expect it to be problematic on fancier cars, don't know if a Brio would qualify.

How or who or what? Batteries don't simply rip out without a cause.

Posting so I can be included in an autism thread.

Buy or borrow another battery, jerry rig it in place (properly) and drive it to your closest honda for a quote.

Not everyone is a macho man like you and me, I still insist on a knowledgeable person carrying out any repairs. Lest you forget this is a Brio and the last time we discussed one it was not a pleasant thread, let us treat this Brio with the caution it deserves.
