Recommendations for replacing ripped car battery

I still think whatever needs to be done is clearly beyond OP's capabilities, some people just never open the bonnet until something goes wrong, then they do and stare at engine. At first glance it looks a s simple as getting a good glue to mend the plastics and connecting wires.

Plus it is the girlfriends car, which makes any DIY attempts even more risky.

Yeah i don't like working on other people s stuff, with my own i don't care if i f**k it up further, but OP might be looking for a new GF soon if he ruins her car.

I tried that on a a 2006 Fiesta, it can start but the accelerator is just pap and does not give gas and the car stalls. My Corsa lite can handle it with no issues.

Isit? I tried it a number of times with mine, never did anything not even a little cough. I assumed the reason being that the short time you have the alternator spinning during the push wasn't enough to let sufficient fuel pressure build from the fuel pump.

I don't know if I get what you are saying, what I meant was jump-starting it with a battery, removing the battery and letting it run on it's own, I doubt push-starting without a battery will ever work, the battery still have to give out some voltage, low enough not to turn the starter but just good enough to get a spark from.

And good point as well on the petrol pump.

This is an interesting one and I may be wrong but you should be able to start the car with another car and as long as you don't stall get to the destination.

Apparently the voltage regulator uses the battery voltage as a reference, so without a battery in there is a chance of the voltage running away and cooking the electrics. I haven’t actually researched that myself though, so am happy to be proven wrong.

Having said that, I did drive my old 1976 Datsun without a battery for a while. The positive cable was buggered and I used a jumper cable to connect the battery to the starter motor, started the car, took the jumper cable off and drove it like that. But that voltage regulator was very different from the ones used today. Or maybe I just got lucky a few times in a row.
