You can register a CC (closed corporation) for about R1000, and then register with all the computer suppliers. My friends and I registered a small IT company to sell stuff to our other friends and family, but mostly we just bought stuff for ourselves at cost :p

and of course you are submitting annual returns?

Sorry for barging in on this thread, I usually stay clear of threads where non dealers ask for pricelists..

I do not understand the above statement at all. There are a ton of online computer stores with every component available as well as a description.

Quite honestly, you don't need the price list as the online stores have got the price list just better put out with images.

You can look there at all the available items and then research it and make your decision.

If you prefer going to a physical store, then research as per the above method and then go into the store and tell them what you want. Most of them will get it for you if they don't have stock of the item.

Thing is everyone asking for a pricelist is going to get a friend of a friend to order for them at the distributers. But you can't nag at that guy for a pricelist every time.

I wasn't asking for one myself as I have COD accounts with 2 other suppliers.

I don't see why a reseller must make 10-20% off me when I don't want them handling the components I'm buying, I don't want their support or their incompetence.

Lastly I don't want to see 1 line descriptions and a picture. That's fine for regular users. I want to see the basic technical spec in a spreadsheet along with model numbers so that if I'm interested I can google some more in-depth info. And I want to see a real price so that I can compare components on a cost vs performance basis.

Have you thought of looking at an old price list & then asking him for prices on THOSE components you are interested in?

Lol, life is a biatch :).

I don't see why a reseller must make 10-20% off me when I don't want them handling the components I'm buying, I don't want their support or their incompetence.

Now that is why most, if not all, resellers loath to give you the price list that also lists the cost price. Consumers then start arguing and haggling for cheaper prices, some even think just paying cost + tax is perfectly fine, screw the companies, they can make it back through after sales support somehow. I personally don't need a dealership to sell me a car, they should provide us with the price list and let us go buy from the factory, i can service the car myself too. I can just buy the maintenance plan from them or a third party company like Bosch or something similar.

I am not attacking or flaming, but without pointing out the other side of the coin people just can't fathom why their "justified" statements can't be implemented. Also, you say already have two COD accounts with other suppliers. Why don't you just open an account with Rectron that is COD as well? And why would you buy from a reseller if you got distributor prices anyway?

I have an account with Rectron, haven't used it in over a year though as they are too expensive. I buy most of my stuff from Esquire now and if its something they don't stock then I go online and find the best price.

I never asked for a Rectron pricelist, I was pointing out why pricelists are useful.

Its not the same as a car situation. If I bought a polo, my money would go to the dealer and the VW factory. If I bought a pc my money would go to the pc store, rectron and the factory, maybe another step between rectron and the factory. I don't see the need to pay somebody for providing a service I don't want when I can avoid it.

I'm sure that more than 90% of buyers would prefer to use the pc store and enjoy the guidance and after sales support, but there are those of us that don't want that.

Its like trying to sell a mechanic an extended service plan.

Hi

If you are clever enough to buy directly from suppliers and they let you, then you should be allowed to do that....so just go and download it:

I used to buy from them now get stuff much cheaper, even their notebooks are better price in retail stores

a While back the Force GT SSD was cheaper from ZAPS. Some things are OK, but other things are better to get from other places.

Thanks for that, I have a warranty claim to take care of and needed to check what Rectron has available.

They are over priced. Might as well go to someone like The Joker or Rebeltech.

Rebeltech uses Rectron as a supplier.

LETS PUT THIS STRAIGHT

Basically every computer store(online too) in SA buys from the resellers such as rectron, pinnacle, esquire, corex, frontosa, etc. It's just buy, markup and sell. Finding one that is good with warranties is a bonus. (not all but most)

The ones that don't are makro, incredible, game etc as they import massive bulk.

If you want their pricelist go and download it, it will be useless unless you have an account.

And as said before, go register a CC or company (I did in gr12 to buy stuff for my computer)

Unless you want to make the effort, shut up, spend the bit of extra markup on a reputable store such a rebeltech or such and GTFO of this thread

Agreed.

People think online stores and pc shops tack on this crazy mark up %. That is completely false. At most it's between 5% and 12%.

It's cut-throat out there for any electronic retailer...they work damn hard to make a living.

I realized this when Rebeltech's markup for some items does not even cover the costs of return on their buck under 6 months. They would be at a loss if they had to send a courier to collect my "faulty case" but they do it anyway!

It is cutthroat as majority of people want to buy "cheapest" model and when specials from Makro, game, dion wired come along small shops cannot compete where their sales price is their cost price.

I don't mind paying a bit extra(not incredible markup) as long as the after service is just as good as the product.

After working in that channel all I can say is... eff off retail :p

Although working with the people at rectron and pinnacle everyday they are quite friendly, helpful and efficient (supplier relations)
