I stand corrected but is the price difference even worth it?

Can someone update the password?

I'd like to compare prices, and as I understand it, Rectron is part of Mustek and they are the only ones who sell barebone Mecer laptops.

Help appreciated.

Don't be too suprised if Rectron cancelled your account they did that to me. I didn't bother after that. They ended the business relationship is quite a bad way.

In their final correspondence they couldn't even spell my name correctly.
They change the passwords from time to time and they don't bother to inform anyone. (a client mailing list is what they could use)
Some of their prices work out more once you include the VAT. Unless you registered for VAT it makes good business sense to buy from them.

Before they would insist that you need to have order of R1000 or more to qualify for delivery. In recent times they would come out to you and deliver an R80 flash drive...

My question to them is... So what if my account is inactive? It doesn't mean I am not buying now I don't intend to buy in the future.

Rectron is one of the more expensive wholesalers. A few times I got a better or same deal, dealing with rebeltech or titanice.

Rebeltech uses Rectron as a supplier.

LETS PUT THIS STRAIGHT

Basically every computer store(online too) in SA buys from the resellers such as rectron, pinnacle, esquire, corex, frontosa, etc. It's just buy, markup and sell. Finding one that is good with warranties is a bonus. (not all but most)

The ones that don't are makro, incredible, game etc as they import massive bulk.

If you want their pricelist go and download it, it will be useless unless you have an account.

And as said before, go register a CC or company (I did in gr12 to buy stuff for my computer)

Unless you want to make the effort, shut up, spend the bit of extra markup on a reputable store such a rebeltech or such and GTFO of this thread

Agreed.

People think online stores and pc shops tack on this crazy mark up %. That is completely false. At most it's between 5% and 12%.

It's cut-throat out there for any electronic retailer...they work damn hard to make a living.

I have dealership with a few of the wholealers in RSA, I'm well versed on markup. Thanks :)

...see one can talk without big man font :D

:edit
Thinking back now, way back to days when I had dealership with Creative/Crystal (unsure about exact name, was in Midrand) for games. Shocking though remembering the actual and the mark up on some of the items. One title I got there x-wing collectors was R90 and being resold for a lot more at the time being. This is especially true for incredible connection and some of the items they resell... if you look closely.

As for RT and TitanIce, well I'm not going to order from Rectron if there is a R50-R100 price difference, that is rather daft if you are getting just a single item. Anyway you'd be less smart not to compare retail with wholesale before *just* ordering.

Yeah SA suppliers are pretty bad... They will suspend your account for the most trivial of things...

I have noticed that for the same price some wholesalers ask for certain components I can buy the item retail from the uk with shipping/customs to me and it will still work out cheaper.. when that is the case there is something wrong with the supplier.

What I really find stupid is that everyone keeps saying lets motivate and encourage small businesses and create good relationships. Seems like its all talk.

As a Value Added Reseller you are supposed to add value to the product. If you add value to the product, consumer will recognise it and you will survive. You are supplying from Rectron, as when problem arise, you have no problem with Rectron and your deal with customer is not affected.

If your value is just price markup, you are box mover, not VAS, you will be looking at the lowest prices. :)

Wouldn't our volatile exchange rate be partly to blame for terrible PC/component pricings?

Then again, they could just be using that as an excuse to collude (and all the wholesalers are pricing roughly the same).

The suppliers are just so anti consumer, they hide behind small retailers like the taliban behind civilians...

Only lately there has been a lot of smaller importers pushing prices down, it has become slightly easier for smaller imported to import pc components so we have that going for us. I would love it if small business can start importing their own goods... :D Some do by the way.

Even when the rand was $1 to R6 we paid R10/1$ prices...
