Rectron struck by cyberattack

Honestly, not really. The only issue I really have is a single case, where an alternative can't be offered. For everything else, there have been alternatives.
Alternatives eat into margins, and the overall effect would be dependent on turnover. On a pivotal operation like Rectron and its busier downstream retailers, it would be quite significant.

As I said most companies wouldn't have the skills to fully investigate. It does take time but it also gives you the assurance that the hole has been closed, any lateral movement has been identified, backdoors or Trojans identified and eliminated, data exfiltration identified, so you can make a full and accurate report to whoever has a stake in this.
Also if they ever catch the guy and it goes to court you'd want someone who is qualified to investigate and collect evidence.

External companies that specialise in this see these attacks everyday and have the expertise so can get to the bottom of it a lot quicker. It's not often the company's cybersecurity team get to deal with ransomware.

Rectron isn't exactly cheap. Alternatives are generally cheaper, and often significantly so. Stupid example, Ryzen 5 9600X, 13% more than elsewhere. Very often, a BETTER alternative can be offered for the same price or lower.

This is causing Rectron's retailers to lose money. Earlier this week I was forced to go to evetech for a component

My condolences for you being forced to go to Evetech. Why not trder from Wootware with same day delivery?

Did you meet the Pakistani owners who are brothers, with long muslim robes and beards who look like snake-oil salesmen?

How exactly can I as a consumer, buy a dozen 9950X3D's/64Gb Ram for each system, RTX 5070ti/5080's depending on price x 12, Mainboards like Tomahawk B850 WiFi x12, and Class A PSU's x 12, preferably Super-Flower Leadex VII 1300w from them?

Surely they could sell a dozen good sets of each component to an end user or are they inflexible in their "|Retailer Only Sales" policy? 13% is a lot of money to save when buying bulk.

You won't, partially because they don't sell half of your list :P

But no, as a consumer they won't deal with you. They're quite renowned for closing accounts that don't meet the monthly order requirements, and that leaves you in a pickle if anything is ever returned under warranty and credited.

I'm not at all sure what you mean. I'm saying there are other distis who are far cheaper than Rectron - 13% cheaper in the example I gave.

They are quite renowned for refusing account applications if you don't meet the following criteria:

* Monthly volumes of X ZAR
* Company Founding Statement and Registered Business Activity at CIPC does not say COMPUTERS/IT/COMPUTER DEALER, etc
* If they even suspect you registered a company to get access to their products but you still work the day job and earning money on the side at night by selling computers. They busted me for this years ago.

well everyone had at least since monday to make the adjustments and preventatives. at the very least friday.

also you could offer client alternatives wait and pay same or dont wait pay more. its the clients choice end of the day. its the stores choice to use the sales tools they have to continue the sale.

unless your clients are super chilled.

arent they all.

when i opened a Rectron account i didnt trade at all for 2 years no issues i must of been lucky :).

but yes a lot of them you loose feed access at first if you dont meet the criteria remember dont waste their time they wont waste yours.
they have thousands of clients per sales staff. imagine having a client base of 800 and only 1 or 2 are buying then what is the point keeping the other 798.

Mustek did this to me back in 2021/2022 and all i had to do was buy a flash drive so i did
frontosa the same

i just buy something if it happens which has been a while since it happened im supprised the other one isnt saying anything since im not buying R13k as a agreed 3 years ago (more like R200) monthly

Also just be nice to them make friends talk kak build a relationship we all on the same goal and thats make money if you dont want to make money then tough.

now the part about

"* If they even suspect you registered a company to get access to their products but you still work the day job and earning money on the side at night by selling computers. They busted me for this years ago."

Remember this protects their clients. i have had a few calls in the passed where my account managers are like
"hey your client is here lol trying to make an account:" and i say good for him good luck but they deny them and come back.

They strictly B2B and you got to bring something to the table.

also why i dont sign up with Core since i know what they want i cant give them (for now). also they imafamous for these things.
