Region-free ripping

Matter of principle? In what way? You won't boot Windows or run
VMWARE and Windows that way? I don't understand. Ripping your DVDs
allows you to make back-ups. Isn't that good?

Anyway to each their own I guess, but I'd rather rip the DVDs to make backups of them .

Agreed, Windows has more "hackers/crackers" than Mac. If it works, I'll use it. I've never had any issues with any protected DVD's on DVDFab 5(having said that i dont run a full version of Windows, only Crossover).
Mactheripper is sadly lacking.
MTR = Small community of dev's
DVDFab 5 = Big community of dev's

AFAIK, only PANASONIC has special hardware region protection which prevents region changing in software or even emulation.

From what I remember Sony was pushing this very hard too, what with being a record label and all. Philips, on the other hand, used to be quite opposed to it.

AnyDVD work via
using an alternative read method (read as data DVD-ROM and not DVD-Video) to get the data off the DVD and it works without flashing the DVD drive firmware.

Which is what vobcopy does.

The only drives this does not work
are Panasonic (MATSUSH-ITA drives).

That explains it - I have a Matsu****a drive. Combo drive that shipped with the MacBooks of old...

Matsush-ita Electric Industrial Co. The only company in the world to have a region lock so powerful, no utility exists to bypass it. It really is impossible
to hack their drives. Fengtao and Slysoft have tried and both have failed.
Fengtao does load the Menu though but then after that it fails.

So Matsush-ita also made drives for Macbooks? Interesting.

Matsu-hita is the only company to make their own laptops though, entirely.
Panasonic Tougbooks (Let's Note is their domestic name for the Business Toughbook) are made entirely
in Japan .

The combo drives are. My MacBook has one, and my Mac Mini had one too.

DVDs from other regions. Therefore my Toughbook can only view Region 1 DVDs .
Still I can smash any other laptop out there, Sony, Apple, Alienware etc with this
laptop and work on it afterwards as though nothing has happened .

I think Mac drives will work with AnyDVD. Have a look on Slysoft.com

ive gone through all the various methods. No software works. That is why i am attempting to patch the firmware. Well least none work for my dvd rom, stupid mastushi drives suck.

Its not impossible to patch the firmwar on the mastush drives. There are loads of patched firmwares for different drive revisions. take a look at rpc1.org and you can see if your revision is available.
