[RELEASE] DStv Now KODI Add-on

^ Such people should not be using Kodi then, as Kodi is actually a "very difficult to understand" piece of software. Sorry to say so.

I believe you should first know how to navigate around Kodi before you start messing about with addons and builds and all the other tricks.

While I agree with you (as a general rule of thumb), some people set it up for their parents for instance that is totally computer illiterate and it just saves them having to fix it for them the whole time. The whole point of using iptv merge with the dstv addon is because of its user friendly interface in conjunction with iptv simple client and the nice EPG.

It would just be a nice touch to have a single button they can click on to fix everything. ;)

When tinkering it could be difficult to understand, you should see how my 10 year old navigates kodi. He fixes the epg with iptv merge by himself.

Exactly, so you know my pain. I even put the dstv catchup on favourites for my parents. They even struggled to navigate into the addon to access it. What is nice is that you can can hold enter or press c to get context menu and add any menu item in the addon to favourites.

We had a similar discussion earlier in this fomur, why not do a fully customizable skin for parents like eon nox where you can add dstv to the menu items with OD content as sub menu items. You can even display OD content in ribbon with DVD cases I think you can ad 2 ribbons eg like movies and TV SHOWS. You can ad all the add-ons they use on main menu and remove the ones that they don't use

No need for a custom skin. Like I said above if you hold enter / press c you will get the context menu and then you can add OD etc to favourites. No skin will allow settings within an addon to be added to favourites / main menu.

Don't blame the user for inferior software design. Software developers should live in the basement of their parents, who in turn stay in the attic of THEIR parents.

End-use interfaces would be so much more user-friendly...

So did I, but then I made custom tabs on the main menu ....

Using eon Nox silvo you can ad the run merge command from iptv merge to the submenu of tv /live TV if you like, next to channels and guide.

This is pretty cool. I was thinking if there could be a way to make the "Setup IPTV Merge" a favourite it would be even easier to access. I know all the menu items in the addon one can via the context menu add it to favourites but obviously not from within settings. Would it be possible to make a setting (that can be toggled on and off) in the "Live TV / EPG" that can create / remove a Kodi favourite?
It could be an interem solution to your problem

Well no, I already added 'run merge' to favourites using the standard skin.

@enerdude
Add this to your userdata/favourites.xml
XML:
<favourites>
    <favourite name="Setup DStv" thumb="special://home/addons/plugin.video.dstv.now/icon.png">RunPlugin(plugin://plugin.video.dstv.now/?_=_setup_merge)</favourite>
</favourites>

Thanks! This is what I was looking for. Just thought it would be neat to add it in dstv settings menu with a slider button that can add / remove it from favourites.

i dont think kodi can do that
and again it should eventually not be needed more than once.

(below copied from Matts post on whirpool forums)

just pushed 0.9.1 of IPTV Merge

This has a new "Run Merge" progress dialog so you can see what it's doing when manually running it.
It also now automatically sends you to the TV Channels view after a force merge.

Also, any Add-on Sources that are added now have Group Name set to their name by default.
This doesn't replace the groups that are provided by the add-on, but just adds an extra group.
That way, you can sort channels by the add-on or via the groups they provide.
It only does this when creating the source, so you can remove this group name if you want after it's added.

Going to spend some time loading new versions of APK's, an elderly gent I know this afternoon. Hopefully he does not keep me busy to long thereafter, as I have other things that need attention.

Unfortunately I am rather fond of the old bugger. :)
