[RELEASE] DStv Now KODI Add-on

I hardly ever watch DSTV ... when I do, its either Kyknet, Via, rugby or some sort of racing ... now and then a bit of some or other food show .... that's it ... hardly ever touch any of the other 100+ channels :p

DSTV is not my goto place for movies or series ;)
 
When selecting a channel a choice of bitrates pops up. The last option is "Bypass".
Anyone know what this does?
 
Is DSTV Now live tv only available in 720p 25 fps ? Why did I think DSTV Now streaming was 1080p?

Started the stream just before the rugby started and it worked fine but stopped it manually just after the game begun and could not start the stream again. Could also not login on the website - gave same error. Had to revert to my sky sports sub to watch until closer to half time when it started working again.

I'm sure @JeremySly can confirm the res max setting.

Basically if you take the streaming only package you only get 720p at 25 FPS streaming. Wow talk about being greedy DSTV.

We are busy transitioning to 4K TV, and the best DSTV can do is 720p, pathetic.

1080p at 50/60 FPS is just so very much better. Data wise I am not ready to go to 4K streaming, but at 1080p at 50/60 FPS, I feel I can comfortably accomodate.

Yeah I share a account with family and it makes it affordable. I have Samsung 4k Smart TV so I get to use 2 connections and the 3rd person also allowed 2 connections. Sharing between 3 so make it around R320 each for Full DSTV and Showmax. Not a bad price. Just the streaming that is not so good quality anymore.

The streaming only package isn't even cheap I mean it's the same price. Capped at 720p and doesn't include music channels.

Poor value proposition, in my opinion.

Have you ever streamed 4 connections concurrently? While back I managed to register 4 devices but only stream 2 concurrently. Think this was on the website though

So it's a give and take situation. It always allows me 3 streams including catchup. Sometimes the stream limit pops up on stream 4 and sometimes not but 3 x streams at the same time work for me every time. Technically we only allowed 2 x streams but for me 3 works without any issues.

So certain devices streams without having to "link" to the account. Browsers and then this Kodi plugin. I want to try and set it up on everyone's mobile devices and see if we can manage more devices without having the 4 device link limit in the way. It won't change the amount of live streams but will offer a bit more flexibility.

The way we use DSTV premium to the max it's actually good value for money. We share a Netflix premium sub also which is max entertainment.

I think everyone knows this but this plugin allows you to stream DSTV Now on a device that is not Google Play or Huawei certified via kodi so that is nice.

Correct. The only requirement is widevine L3 or better. This is needed to decrypt the live streams and some cheap chinese boxes don't support it.
 
Why does one (Mibox) of my Kodi Dstv Nows have 1, 2, 3... as channel numbers and the other (Litbox) is correctly numbered like on Dstv.
