Hi Bofs

Whats the best way method to work remotely? I've seen a citrux solution thats opens your exact remote desktop in your local pc. Anyone know how to setup that and costs involved?

Thanks

What operating systems are involved? If it's just plain Windows (not the home editions though) then Remote Desktop works fine in my experience...

Off course you'd have to VPN into the network that the target machine is on first. And you'd have to make sure that incoming remote connections are enabled on that machine.

There are several Citrix options, one for the casual/home user is call Citrix GoToMyPC. There is an annual cost of around $180, so it is hardly cheap - but it is a market leader, and a really fantastic product.

There are other products that allow remote access, but these are aimed at the enterprise/corporate customer....

UltraVNC (for me) and RDC (Windows standard)

I put both connections on 256 colours (screen) for speed reasons.

Have a look at Microsoft Mesh. Has the best remote desktop I've ever seen including LogMeIn and TeamViewer. Of course it has other features like backup and file sharing.

Nothing beats teamviewer. RDP can be a mission if there's firewalls etc. involved.

Teamviewer bypasses firewalls, it includes file transfer, and also if you are running two monitors, you can switch between the two.

It's brilliant. I use it all the time.

BTW, if you need to use RD for commercial use, nothing beats Mikogo. Teamviewer is only free for private use, though it does work very well.

I agree teamviewer is simple to use for your basic use.
Network admin etc has never been easier using dameware.
