I have just bought a Renault Duster 4WD 1.5 DCi and am very impressed with the vehicle. Taking into account the Price, one cannot expect a Land Cruiser or Honda CRV, so if you want all the goodies and leather seats, rather buy a CRV or Cruiser. The duster is very capable and impressed me from the first 5Km I drove it. The Fuel consumption was my ultimate challenge. If Renault states it could get 5.3L/100Km, I must challenge that. This is exactly what I did and took it on the N1 North at between 85 and 100Km/h and I managed to get 23.8Km/l which works out to 4.2L/100KM. This is the best I got it up to and this lasted from Gordon Road to Rivonia Road. Any one that can better that?

If I can figure out a way to add the Photo from my Desktop I will to prove my statement.

BY The way. Renault Clearwater is the best in the whole of Gauteng. if you need a mater of Service and Passion for Customers, go and see Barry Oosthuize or Clifford Irving, man these oaks are great!

Advertisement much?
Ordered the 4x2 :p Will give a real review later.

Do the fuel test by driving 120km/h to PTA and back.

Here is my 2c.

My wife bought the 2x4 diesel Duster back in August of last year. We have since driven over 7000 km with it and I am extremely impressed. Over December we drove down to Natal south coast and we probably averaged about 19 - 20 km/litre (maybe I have a bit of a heavy foot).

When looking at a new car, we were looking at the Renault Duster, Ford Ecosport and the Daihatsu Terios (my wife wanted an SUV...). The Terios was discarded early on because it only has a 1.5l petrol engine (effectively a 1.2l at our altitude). That left the Ecosport and the Duster. The build quality and materials of the Ecosport is excellent and the new 1.0l turbo petrol engines are also extremely nice, but we wanted something with a bigger engine. Thus we had to compare the 1.5l turbo diesel from Ford with the Duster. The engine in the Duster has more power than the one in the Ford, so that settled that part.

Another consideration was boot space. The Ecosport does not have any. Compare this to the Duster and you have a clear winner. The last thing we had to take into account was the fact that the Renault comes with integrated satnav/media system as standard (when buying the diesel models). This on its own is probably a couple of thousand rand right there. Overall I am very impressed with the Duster and its performance.

One warning though. The dealers won't mention this to you when you buy the car but it is important to switch of the car completely when filling it up. To be safe just take the key out of the ignition. The first time my wife went to fill up the car, she switched of the engine but kept the instrumentation panel on so that she could listen to the radio. After filling up the fuel gauge was stuck on empty and we had to go to Renault for a reset. Apparently most of the new Renault fleet suffers from this (software glitch???), including the Sandero, Clio, etc. I recently spoke to one of the sales reps and he confessed to having forgotten to switch of the car completely when filling up before doing test drives and then the fuel gauge gets stuck.

But still an excellent vehicle overall.

Eh? Why would someone who can afford a Land Cruiser or CRV even be considering the Duster?

Any rust so far?

Auto would be great. Accessories are limited though and no chance of importing either as shipping companies don't ship to SA.

You guys are so funny. Bottom line it is a good car. They don't call it the Jack Russell of 4x4s for nothing
