And one can understand why consumers have taken a liking to this product: it comes with many features that will suit an adventurous lifestyle. Has Renault done enough to keep its target audience interested? I think so!
The prospect of a turbocharged 2025 Renault Kiger excites me and will undoubtedly appeal to those who can afford to spend a bit more. At the launch, we were shown a teaser video of the upcoming 1.0T, and it looked very appealing indeed. Same package, more power, yet still not breaking the bank, what’s not to love? However, if you, like most local buyers, are not fussed about power, then the refreshed Kiger in its normally aspirated guise should definitely be on your budget-friendly crossovers shortlist.

Verdict
Renault will certainly spark the interest of consumers who are looking for an affordable yet seemingly practical compact crossover. The updated Kiger builds on the formula that made the outgoing model such a success for the brand – offering budget-conscious buyers a stylish package that is both practical and competitively priced.
In Techno trim, the Kiger offers compelling standard specification, a spacious interior and boot, and a frugal powertrain. And it seems the manual-equipped model we sampled will likely be the pick of the (naturally aspirated) bunch. However, the naturally aspirated motor did leave us wanting. So, we are looking forward to driving the turbocharged range-topper once it arrives on our shores.

Renault South Africa has launched the updated Kiger Turbo, with the local arm of the French automaker announcing local pricing and specs for the refreshed model lineup.
In November 2025, Renault South Africa introduced the updated Kiger, which we sampled at the local launch, to our market. At the time, the revised local Kiger lineup was exclusively available with a 1.0-litre naturally aspirated three-pot, producing 52 kW and 96 N.m of torque. However, now, the more powerful, turbocharged variant has landed in SA.
The newcomer to the French firm’s local Kiger portfolio employs the same 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged petrol powertrain as the pre-facelifted derivative. As a reminder, this unit churns out 74 kW and 160 N.m, delivered to the front wheels via either a five-speed manual gearbox or CVT transmission. The drivetrain offers three drive modes: Eco, Normal, and Sport. The automaker claims an average fuel consumption figure of 5.0 L/100 km.
While the non-turbocharged Kiger can also be had in entry-level, Evolution trim, the turbocharged model is exclusively available in (mid-tier) Techno and (flagship) Iconic spec – the latter including 16-inch alloy wheels. Stepping inside, the Kiger Turbo’s cabin plays host to an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, replete with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, a six-speaker sound system, and a wireless smartphone charging tray. A multi-camera array is also present.

What it’s like behind the wheel of the Renault Kiger Turbo with updated tech and a fresh look
A 1.0-litre three-cylinder normally aspirated engine with 53kW and 96Nm of torque struggles to pull the skin off the proverbial custard, and it’s made even worse in the rarefied Gauteng air.
It was one of the major drawbacks of the Renault Kiger, which has now been upgraded by mounting a turbocharger to the unit, which increases outputs to 74kW and 160Nm, making it a much-improved drivetrain.
Still, it remains a popular option in the B-SUV segment with 28,000 Indian made Kigers having found homes locally since its introduction in 2021.
And while they were at it, they also gave the exterior a fresh look, a better-equipped cabin and improved convenience features.
Trim line
The Kiger Turbo comes out in three trim levels: 1.0L Turbo Techno, 1.0L Turbo Iconic, both with a five-speed manual transmission and 1.0L Turbo Iconic CVT, which, as the name suggests, is paired with a continuously variable transmission.
Exterior
From the outside, the Kiger Turbo keeps the same compact SUV formula, but the updated range brings Tri-Octa LED headlamps on the Techno derivative, while the flagship Iconic model adds 16-inch Evasion diamond-cut alloy wheels.
It has a raised stance with 205mm of ground clearance and practical roof rails rated to carry up to 50kg.
There are six colours, including a new autumn yellow, alongside grey, red, blue, white and silver.

Verdict
The updated styling and modern additions to the Kiger Turbo, supported by competitive pricing, make it a compelling product in the compact-crossover segment. With more comprehensive standard specification and a peppier engine, the turbocharged model is hands down the model to have if you are looking to buy a Kiger. Although more expensive than the Techno derivative, the inclusion of ESC and traction control with the Iconic variant makes it our model of choice.
