Replacement batteries for 600w trolley

I have the below inverter that says ULTRA on the top and the barcode sticker reads Model: PR600 . It is linked to 2 x 102Ah Taurus Platinum leadacid batteries.

When running a load of 150watts it lasts for about 70 minutes before the inverter starts beeping. At this point the batteries measure 11.4V (load) and 12.65v (no load) from a starting point of 13.6v . Both batteries measure the same.

I'm assuming the batteries are toast? Could I drop in something like a Hubble S-200 ?

No you'd need 2 as it sounds like it's a 24v system.

600W, so probably 2 x 12V in parallel as he mentions 13.6V starting voltage, so 1 x S120 would do the same job, S200 would be an upgrade.

@abudabi, can you take a pic of the batteries and wiring?

yup.. it's 2 x 12v in parallel

so even though it's 1 battery I'm thinking it will be the same spec as the current two ?

2 x 105Ah = 2520Wh x 0.5 = 1260Wh usable
1 x S120 = 1536Wh x 0.8 = 1228Wh usable
1 x S200 = 2560Wh x 0.8 = 2048Wh usable

So you can see S120 will do the job your 2 LA's did. Seeing you only have a 150W load, there is no point getting a S200.

Thanks for this... yeah I also used that calculator. BTW the 150W was only as a test to measure the charge/discharge rates and confirm my suspicions that my batts are dead.

No worries :)

I was just emphasising that 1 x S120 is equal to what you had, and that S200 is an upgrade.
 
Make sure the fan comes on when charging LiFeP04 and doesn't go poof like the Mecer's.

I've been looking at the Mecer's too... please elobarate?

EDIT: Or are you talking about the mecer inverter and not the mecer batteries?

Mercer inverter. Reports are that if you try to charge LiFePO4 at 20A and the fan doesn't come on... they blow up.
 
The LiFePO4 even after a few hours remain at 13v or more. Only when they totally flat do they start dropping. But even after 2hrs loadshedding they still sitting at 13v+ (depending on your load) the inverter sits at float with no fan meanwhile the battery is sucking max amps it can pull from the charger. @RedViking could probably explain better drop him a DM.

Yes I know this will be costing me more in the long run, but what if I put in gel batteries now that will be more compatible with my current inverter? Found these Oliter ones on geewiz which will be just over 6k for the 2 that I'll parallel to replace my current ones. They seem to have decent cycles of about 1400 when sticking to 50% DOD. That's about 1.5 years assuming continuous stage 4 loadshedding which I don't think is too bad.

Dont waste money on "gel" batteries. Just buy Hubble s100 from the start.

2-stop meaning gel now and then Lithium later?

That's like Ferarri level strategy decisions man. Just get the Lithiums now.
 
If I go lithium now it'll mean I need to change inverter... And I dont want to go that route just yet. In the next year or 2 sure, but not now.

Ja but hubble is lithium and I can't go that route... Or at least I'm scared to base d on the conversations I've had with people.
 
I took the plunge and bought the S-200 after I could not get the mecers.

My lead acids measures 13.6v when fully charged
S200 arrived on 13V
I put it in and after 15 mins it was on 13.25v and after 30 mins it was only at 13.26v
Front panel of inverter showed 84% at this point and the fan would still go on/off which to me indicates continued charging *shrug*
Does that mean my inverter thinks it needs to charge more whilst the battery is already at max?

I switched everything off at this point to not cause damage.
