so its this little star, one clicks on to give rep, so I click it to give out rep?
sounds still suspicious, as I could easily log in as a clone account and give myself rep,

its not been thought out brilliantly TBH....

also no real explanation to some of us, how it works, and why it works....
clone acc can only give out x amount of rep then it need to receive rep to give out again rep

How in the blue hell do you have so much rep?

I'm a likeable guy :p

Your clone would have a value of 0, so wouldn't really help unless you can get people with rep power to rep the clone to up its rep, wouldn't it be easier to get those people to just rep you directly? ;)

this is weird way of assigning rep, as I just noticed I cant give out any more today,
and it reloaded after 24hrs.....

Yeah, you only get 5 in every 24 hour period, and have to give out 10 before you can rep the same person again.

Rep/neg rep should be for the post not the poster

It can be either I suppose, you like a post you rep it, you like a person you can rep them too.

I presume neg rep is supposed to be for mods to dish out if they don't like a post (from a moderation POV) but probably won't always happen that way. A perk of the job, I suppose.

I don't understand why we still have the rep system. Every forum I've used that has it has shown that rep usually means nothing. Users who seldom have anything valuable to impart are perfectly capable of big reps, as it's basically a circle jerk with them and their buddies.

If you're going to have a rep system, tying it to a tiny and obscure star button that most users don't know exist is totally retarded. Either turn it into a big "Say Thanks" button, or just utilise an actual thanks function on the forum. Ideally, use a proper thanks system for each post and tie each user's rep to the number of thanks that they've received.

I stumbled across this thread while checking the Announcements forum. My second response to it (first being "this is an old topic") was "We have a reputation system?", followed closely by "What is that star for?".

As an old forumite coming back to the forum, that should tell you something.
