its what people call a water scorpion, but its actually an insect - a beetle type thing i think - harmless...

The macro I have atm is little more than a bit of an old wide angle attachment lens that I glued the ring from a broken UV filter onto to hold it in place. :o

Maybe you could fashion something out of a magnifying glass?A what?

The bug will be in a different zip code before I get that sorted out.

We also got a water scorpion in our pool the other day

It made a hissing sound.

I threw it over the fence into the neighbour's yard :D

I woke up this morning at 4am only to find a humongous spider the size of my hand on the wall above the missus dresser.

She killed it in the end.

I wish I had the guts to rather catch it and release it back into the garden ,but alas my nerves got the better of me :-(

hey! i just got one of those out our pool this afternoon! and i fished it out out of the kindness of my heart, but it looked rather like it might bite so i gave it a wide berth... and reasoning that it was outside and as such should not be squished... and i felt all noble about not killing something just doing its job...

then the stupid thing slowly marched into the house terrorising the little old lady of the house with its slow movements! at the same time i was googling to see what the hell this scorpion bug thing was and found it on the net (lurve that google). the bf got up to go tell his mom bout this wierd bug and she got up to try and see where the hell it got to then when she went to sit down again, it was there, under her chair, squished....

apparently... it can bite and it hurts like a sonnofabiatch cos it injects ensimes into its prey to liquify and start digest it, then it sucks it all up... icky icky icky

all in all... i am rather reluctant to put my feet on the carpet anymore... and i hope to high heaven it was the same bug!!!
