Resetting Apple iPad 1st Generation

yes so you press the power button and home key together - keep holding it in until it restarts and you see a pic of a cable going into the device - that is the restore screen - only then you let go...

I did this last night and nothing happened - I think I was pressing for something like 5 minutes.

had something like this once before on Ipad air 2nd generation,

imo apples security can only be bypassed by istore people, and only with a ORIGINAL invoice to prove you didn't steal it.

had mountains of Ipads with this same issue, our company simply sent them to recycling as it was too much of a bother to try remove the itunes lock.

just another reason I never liked ipads.

Your company should stop stealing iPads. They wouldn't have these issues. Security can be bypassed by the rightful owner unless the dunce can't remember their passcode...

Mmmmmm, your home button is busted...

I think you are correct about this because I saw a colleagues iPad 1 and when he powers it on, even when the screen goes off, if you push the power button, it lights up - with this iPad, it doesn't.
So I think the button is faulty.

Worst case take to an Apple Store

I spoke to them, they refuse to assist as the iPad was given as a gift and there is no "PoP"
Another guy (Gumtree) says he'll fix it but is charging R2500.

Ultimately - not going to bother, going in a box in a garage to be forgotten about.

Yeah, not viable to repair. Thing must be 7 years old plus though, so probably due for permanent retirement.

As for resale value, a mint condition Ipad 1 is probably only worth around R1500. I don’t think you could give yours away but maybe stick it on carbs and see what offers come up....

people that left, and as a final F*** you , locked their Ipads with a Itunes lock,
(hi tech version of a Kensigton lock with no idea what the code is).

got masses of them like this, initially we tried to do all the above, some worked, many didnt,

even took them to Istore, but Istore is strict, only if you can PROVE you own an Ipad will they unlock it,
in our case, was brought via a company receipt from overseas, no not easy to see the ORIGINAL invoice.

what else can you do? recycle them, and buy a new one, and charge the department of the employee that did this,
hopefully the cost will then be deducted from their final earnings.

Yeah, again, not Apple's fault employees behave like a bunch of vindictive kids.

Why are so many of your companies employees leaving on such bad terms

100% agree, but I constantly compare it to android,
if they had been samsung/custom android tablets, much easier to deal with such a issue,

either factory reset or load another ROM, and carry on with somebody else,
no need to scrap a perfectly usable device, due to some rude and disgruntled people.

medical sales reps, who knows?
surprised others don't have the same experience?

they rock up at my desk (sometimes when Im not even there), dump their laptop and Ipad, and walk out then and there...
no goodbyes or heres my Itunes account, they just say a giant F*** you to everybody.

and your left with a useless Ipad, that sometimes can and sometimes cant be used again.

Another failure of IT and your own knowledge blamed on Apple...shame.

And clear evidence that Android is insecure as ****.

my Colleague who is a Cr@pple FANBOI of note, not like me:crylaugh:
came to the same conclusion as me, some can be unlocked, majority CANT, so

scrap the device, buy another one, charge their departments account with the cost of a replacement Ipad.
fair enough, we given a few Ipads away to people to try and fix them themselves,

not much happens usually, after trying many of the methods above, and visiting Istore,
they just leave it in a drawer like many other Cr@pple devices, that dont get updates anymore.
or try sell it for parts,

weird, I took my devices twice to them (Sandton City) and they never ask me for proof. DO you look like a skelm ? :D

Yes but the failure of yourselves as IT was to leave the CORPORATE devices open to END USERS to register as their own and then you want to blame Apple for it working as designed and being secure.

But if it did work like that you would be the first to claim Apple was insecure.

The correct way would have been to managed them as corporate devices with MDM and then you could unlock all of them as required.

It's all a failure on your part...none on Apple's.

If you weren't so biased with your Crapple bull**** and educated yourself none of this crap would happen.
