Hello...
First post here, let me introduce myself.
Im a 22 year old portuguese student, currently living on my own and relying on a wireless connection throu the E220 with a local provider called kanguru.

My problem is simple... as part of the "deal", we users only get a mere 6 GB of traffic (both up and download) each month, which by today standards is really small... I rely on VoIP for some communications and this puts a heavy load on the counters, plus watching a youtube video now and then, and bam, I'm on the limit and paying throu my eyes. Its a 3.2 mbps connection but it performs at like 1.5 mbps on it's inspired days. The whole deal costs 40 euros a month, more than 60 american dollars, which to me is quite expensive, and adding that the ridiculous over usage fees which are 2.5 €/100 MB, which can be a lot.
I would also like to mention an incident where, on one of the many months i exceeded the allowed bandwith, I checked their counters and cross checked with mine. Theirs were at least 400 MB ahead of mine, so I called support. After a 1 hour call which was like 90% holding time, they said I was right and they took those 400 MB off and apologized. Then called me the next day to see if things were OK. I smell mischief or stupidity.

What I'm wondering is, as the title suggests, if there's a way to use the modem and delete the counters' data once in a while?... like after a big call. I know this is probably illegal and fraudulent but I feel scammed out of my money with the service, wished I knowed before I signed the contract.

Hope you guys can help me.
Thanks a million

A few points:

- You'll get lots of responses that you actually have a good deal, 6GB for a few hundred Rand. :) You're OOB rates are much higher than SA though.

- The network count the data on their side and you don't have any control over that. So you can only delete the counters on your side.

- I suspect they gave you a credit as a measure of goodwill.

- Why do you feel 'scammed'? Which part of the agreement you signed is your network not keeping?

- Never a good idea to try and commit any kind of crime. Invariably it comes back to you. ;)

You are paying about R440 for 6gigs = ~R73/gig which is excellent on 3G.

2.5euro/100MB = ~R28/100MB = ~28c/MB?

The part of the deal I dont feel like they're keeping is that it is an expensive service here, and without a better word for it, ****ty.
To let you see how expensive it is:
3.6 Mbit wireless with 6 GB - 40€
TV with 40 channels + 8 Mbit ADSL without transfer limits + phone line = 50€

I know they use the modem's internal counter because if I dont get online for a few days the consumption page is not updated. It doesnt show zeros for the days I haven't used, instead it doesnt show the days. Then after I connect, it updates...

You're not making any friends here, bragging like that. ;)

I really doubt that they are using your modem's internal counters for billing, but feel free to experiment with the software found here, it allows you to reset your counters.

Im not bragging, I'm comparing prices... I mean if i converted this to some other country's currency lets say Argentina, where I'm from, it'd be 200 pesos for the connection... thats like 1/5th of a normal monthly salary and noone could afford it there (if it was priced like here). 40€ is not 1/5th of anyone's monthly salary, its more like a daily salary... But since I'm a student (I dont work), its hard for me to pay it.. anyways...

** edit
Tried the program but it says it cant find the com port... My modem is usb. Then downloaded the driver package but Idk what to do with it :S

Make sure your Kanguru software is not running, kill it from the Task Manager if necessary. If you have any further questions about the program, please ask them in the relevant forum.
