Return to Monkey Island!

OT, but, oh, my,

I guess this is shaping up to be a good year.
wow, that is big news. I gave up on seeing this a long long time ago lol.

The horse armour pre order bonus made me laugh haha

In other off-topic adventure gaming news, the amazing Grim Fandango-like Journey Down trilogy (starring bwana :)) is getting a Special Limited Edition

Will get this when I'm done with the Max Payne series. Glad it doesn't suck.

I read the review, and I agree with the author's conclusion,

It's not that Return To Monkey Island gets too serious, as much as it is gently self-aware in ways that it wasn't before. It's clear from the start that the ending, which I won't spoil, is going to be a bit metatextual in a way that tiny babies will get cross about - but I thought it was perfect. It's about growing and changing, and what the important bits of the stories we love actually are. I do think it's one of the best point and click games to give someone in the year of 2022 to prove that point and click games are good. But I'm also self-aware enough myself to know I wouldn't have loved Return To Monkey Island quite as much if I didn't have a history with the series. But I do. So I did. Yo ho ho, and a bottle of fun.

Point and click adventure sales are dismal. I really hope that this IP can dig into the market and bring us more point and click adventure telling, but the gaming market is simply not interested in this genre. There are some publishers who are still producing gems, like this particularly good publisher,

there are others, but they have limited budgets, though some deserve shout-outs. The last good point and click story was Syberia 4, and 3 sucked.

As it stands, you want to produce adventure games, you have to produce action adventures or at least have action mechanisms.

So I played the first 2 acts of MI last night and it's definitely Monkey Island. The humor is on par, the puzzles are a bit easier than previous games but maybe it's just because now I'm a bit older and things just make a bit more sense.

So far I'm quite impressed and had a couple of moments that made me actually laugh.

There is a rumour that there may be a new Loom announced soon. I guess Return to Monkey Island is being used to test interest in bringing back some old LucasArts gaming IPs. Who knows, maybe even Disney themselves have an interest. They have my support.

This had me stuck for quite a while, these kinda games were better before you could google the answer when you got frustrated.
