Got a Vodafone Smart Mini for my dad yesterday at CNA and I'm trying to find out what on earth is wrong with this phone. Installed whatsapp, phone reset itself. Countless auto resets after that. Put it on charge for the night and walked in on the phone busy resetting at least two times. This morning the phone was frozen and had to pull the battery. Just did a factory reset and have been playing with the phone - 2 resets so far.

So I got out the video camera and started recording (want to take the phone back tomorrow) ... no resets so far

How do I get them to swop the phone out if I cannot prove that something is wrong with the phone?

Assuming its Vodacom and prepaid. Not sure what the warranty period is on prepaid but Vodacom provides a 1 year warranty on contract phones (excluding liquid or physical damage).. they will send the phone for assessment/repair/replacement.

If this is the case you will be without the phone for the duration and no temp device will be provided.

My advice would be to stay away from Vodafone.

Vodacom prepaid yes. There is a 7 day OOB (shark!, hehe) - out of box failure period of some sort the agent mentioned. Hoping to use this. Then a 1 year manufacturer and 1 year vodacom guarantee.

No resets since I started recording ... :(

Go back to store asap and swap it out. Don't accept a repair

I won't accept a repair. But what do I tell the minimum-pay desk dude? "The phone restarts at random" ... then he plays around with the phone and it does not reset?

So the bugger refused to reset... played around with it a bit... refused to reset. Turned off the video recording... *BAM* daar reset die ding. While walking back to my camera setup it resets again! So I start recording again, but nothing happens for like an hour. Played around with it and everything. Nothing. :(

Eventually I turn the recording off again and left the phone on the table. 5 Minutes later I hear the thing resetting again, I grab my camera and manage to capture like 5 minutes of a beautiful boot-freeze-reset-loop! I have my proof :D

Pull the CPA on them! Just say the phone is faulty and you need it replaced.

Take your phone immediately to a Vodacom shop*repair* let them do the diagnostics on the phone, cause they can log the phone on their system and they will see it is within a 7 day cooling period. If they find a fault with the phone I am sure they will give you one absolutely for free.

Edcon refuses to take phones also read the agreement you signed what it states, the procedure etc.

Thank you, if I take it back to vodacom they will not be able to give me a replacement as they have no local stock when I checked on Sunday. The agreement states that I need to take it back to the original place of purchase, CNA, and they do have stock to issue a replacement phone... although I have a feeling I'll have a better chance of convincing the vodacare(shop) folk that the phone is faulty than the minimum-pay "Cellphone Consultant" at CNA.

Eish. What to do, what to do...

Does a new replacement phone also come with a 7 day 'OBF'?

Yep yep. Got a replacement phone on the spot with a new 7 day OBF to boot. Phone has been stable from the get-go now. It is warning me of a software update that the first one did not ask me about though, but I'm a wee bit hesitant to do the update - scared the phone lands up in the same state. I'm probably just being paranoid.
