Even if so the mental health strain you’ll induce on yourself simply isn’t worth it.

There’s a very high chance his wife always goes off the rails just having the baby; no need to go adding unnecessary **** to that and then in then affecting his own mental health.

This is just not the hill to die on, unless you are fabulously rich with a party of helpers which has been the only time I’ve ever seen it work.

Ironically the hippie extreme environmentalist types are the ones I’ve seen turn at near suicide because they have such a shock when it’s not all as easy as they thought it would be having a baby the “natural way”.

Mayhaps,depends on their arrangements,WFH/Maid etc
We went disposable due to the above obviously - convenience and time is a valid excuse,no need to fluff it with inaccuracies about it being worse for the climate

Look I have been at my current employer for about 13 years and "stood in" for 6/7 maternity leaves for my colleagues, if this becomes an option would take it in a heart beat otherwise im aiming for minimum a month off, but the splitting of that month sounds like an idea if needed. thankfully its in the Easter holidays so loads of publics too

Yeah if you can’t do it as paternity then consider some regular leave.

Week 6-8 with both my kids and pretty much every other I know was pure chaos.

It’s just past that honeymoon phase where new parents think they got the perfect baby who sleeps almost through the night etc and then suddenly the baby is day/night aware and it all goes tits up in the transition.

Also likely when they’ll be sick for the first time or need some kind of alteration to diet or additional medication etc because of lactose intolerance or reflux and so on.

But really keep your wife first and foremost. Women get extremely in their head about doing it the “natural way” whether with the birthday itself, breast feeding or things like nappies and if any of that goes wrong they see it as a personal failure and in many cases have a complete psychotic break.

The more hippie/environmental they are the worse this is in my experience.

If she plans to breastfeed make sure you have a breast feeding clinic on call and go there the moment she struggles. The nurses are USELESS with this and there is a lot more method to it than one thinks.

If she wants to go natural birth route skip all the classes and kak now and get her a doula instead.

And as above anything that doesn’t directly relate to her…just skip it right here and now and get over it BEFORE the baby comes.

I was about to say exactly this, if you have the money there are better disposable options than the norm.

Just not sure they are always readily available in all sizes.

We used a mix of disposable and reusable (bamboo) depending on stage/size. Worked out very well. It not as messy as you would think and if you are structured in your washing approach you will be fine.
Just take note that some creche's will not assist/accept reusable nappies.
 
Fsck that noise. Disposable all the way. I cannot even begin to imagine the effort and amount of kots involved in going reusable.
 
You could always try the reusable route and see how it works for you. I have moered many a nappy onto the back of my bakkie after changing it on the back seat. Gosh I am glad that part is over.
Now just for the youngest one to learn to wipe his own arse, then I am done with kinder kak for life. :ROFL:

There are a couple of milestones/stages call it what you will that makes you happy as a parent. For me one of the best were when my first born started to wipe by himself.

Mine started learning to wipe his arse but pisses on the floor instead of the toilet. Pretty sure it's just to test our patience too...

Yes and no. Don't use premium nappies in the day when its only going to last a few hours. Use cheap ones for regular changes and better ones at night.
 
Pampers or nothing. I reared both my kids as well as my illegitimates on those :thumbsup:
 
Also most medical aids give some type of maternity shopping benefit? Discovery gave us these nappy card things, lasted like two years with discounts on nappies. It all helps.

That was .... literally last decade though.
