RICA deadline extended

It will probably be extended again later as well.

You're 100% correct. Nobody in government seems to have the titaniums to tell the big mobile operators in this country where to go and how to get there.

We will forever bow and scrape to their every whim :(

If it's likely to hurt their revenue stream, they'll get their way.

Why bother to extend? Cut off the people who have not registered.
They deserve all the hassle they will have afterwards.

Because the network operators will then lose billions of Rand in revenue, nah not gonna happen.

The RICA deadline will never be enforced, there are just simply too many people who haven't RICA'd and too many senior ANC members with shares in cellphone companies who's revenues will be shafted if RICA is enforced.

no way im registering for this RICA bs
+1
I'm contract customer with Vodacom who had my address, ID number etc for the last 11 years. Why do I need to go in to a store to go verify my details they already have.
+1 gazillion
And the mobile operators will "cut off" the revenues from all the rural folk who have no proof of address?? Haha!
Exactly the reason many don`t care about RICA, since it`s a joke. Infact I encourage any one to use
the address of their local school or church if they do plan to register. I mean since it`s all about equalitynall :p

Ironically announced on the day that I did mine. Although, I have to say it only took about 90 seconds.

what is the whole point of RICA? criminals will not register their sim cards they would rather rob/kill someone for a phone and use that.
So how is RICA going to help?

+120 000 000

This is exaclty what I've been wondering about from the get go

*knock on the door*

Police:
Excuse me sir, your number has been used to perpetuate heinous crimes, such as drug deals, extreme telemarketing, phone sex, and spam.

Me: Oh really? Is that so? Well I have already reported my phone as being stolen, so what does this have to do with me and what the bloody hell are you doing on my property?

Police: Umm eh, urrr, um well you see errr....

*slams door shut*

o very nice hey

All this whining and protesting about something that (gatecrasher)
I have to say it only took about 90 seconds.

The criminals may get away with it, but people like the hoax callers to the emergency centres may not. And that would be a good thing. Not?

Ja, great idea, let's start implementing the police state so we can catch a few hoax callers. Not even the UK or the USA require prepaid cell users to register their details and they have huge problems with terrorism. Of course there when you talk about an "intelligence agency", it's not being ironic like here.

they need to keep parkinson's law in mind...either way though there will always be stragglers.

RICA = New method to do identity theft.
They have your ID
They have your Home Details
They have your bank details (contract)
Easy to clean your bank account.

Was overseas EU and no RICA required for pre-paid.

ANC want RICA so they can wire-tap and invade your privacy.

The rampant paranoia in this thread is hilarious.

What's hilarious is how freely people are prepared to hand over their personal details to the government. Quite frankly where I live, what my cellphone number is, how I use it, what my ID number is, etc, etc is nobody's business, including the government and the police. That's goes for RICA, FICA, and all these other stupid laws that are meant to "protect" us. You can be sure that the only things these laws are meant to protect are the continuing enrichment of ANC politicians in one way or another.

I just love all this "I'm not going to register for this BS" stuff!

Half the world have processes in place similar or in some cases much tighter than the RICA requirements!

I think it's down to GOFA Syndrome - This means some people are unable/unwilling to Get Off Fat A$$ to register!

Cure: While registration is currently free, once the cut off date passes make it R2000 registration fee per SIM...

Your ID number isn't yours! It's the governments property as is your passport!

If you had a marine radio you'd need a licence, if you had PMR radio (two-way radio) in a van you'd need a licence, radio hams need a licence and so on. You own a cellphone (a very sophisticated two-way radio) and to make it work you need a SIM card and that needs to be tied to its user - Hey you don't need to pay a licence fee!!

Register and stop whining about it!

Great plan, because someone in a rural area has R2000 to spend on RICA. If something like that does happen I'll honestly just buy a new SIM.

Actually, those items are yours by constitutional right.
2.21.(4) "Every citizen has the right to a passport."

The point is, RICA is pointless.
