RICA deadline extended

They have a right to a passport - It is the property of the state!

RICA is as pointless as driving licences....

Not RICAing my phone is hardly the same as driving illegally. Compare apples with apples.

Hi, please give me your ID number.

If you had a legitimate reason I'm sure even I'd give you my ID number!

Had RICA been a requirement from day one of cellular networks, almost no one would complain!

The trouble is that many South Africans take issue at being told that they have to do something!

Then you have the "I poo in a bag - You're not getting my DNA brigade" who were probably born clinically paranoid...

The worst to expect from RICA is a stifled chuckle from the RICA Agent at your naff looking 1980's hair cut in your ID photograph!

Using RICA to eavesdrop on your cellular calls - Yes I'm sure - As if you've got anything worth eavesdropping on to!! LMAO

Ja, great idea, let's start implementing the police state so we can catch a few hoax callers. Not even the UK or the USA require prepaid cell users to register their details and they have huge problems with terrorism. Of course there when you talk about an "intelligence agency", it's not being ironic like here.

The USA does require registration and as a non-resident you can't get a SIM card! Not yet in the UK but as in some parts of Europe it will come!

Muso

I'm contract customer with Vodacom who had my address, ID number etc for the last 11 years. Why do I need to go in to a store to go verify my details they already have.

Because it's been 11 years since you last up-dated your information you Penguin!!!!!!

What's hilarious is how freely people are prepared to hand over their personal details to the government. Quite frankly where I live, what my cellphone number is, how I use it, what my ID number is, etc, etc is nobody's business, including the government and the police. That's goes for RICA, FICA, and all these other stupid laws that are meant to "protect" us. You can be sure that the only things these laws are meant to protect are the continuing enrichment of ANC politicians in one way or another.

As if they didn't issue you with that ID you don't want to show them. :D

1. Exactly. I have to pay to obtain something which is mine by right, but it is not mine.
RICA is just as worthless.

2. You make my point, every day people with driving licences break the law and criminals use vehicles to commit crimes.

So, you're not giving me your ID number then.
Fine.

I'll just get if from the RICA database then, no skin off my nose.

I just love all this "I'm not going to register for this BS" stuff!

Half the world have processes in place similar or in some cases much tighter than the RICA requirements!
Cure: While registration is currently free, once the cut off date passes make it R2000 registration fee per SIM...

If you had a marine radio you'd need a licence, if you had PMR radio (two-way radio) in a van you'd need a licence, radio hams need a licence and so on. You own a cellphone (a very sophisticated two-way radio) and to make it work you need a SIM card and that needs to be tied to its user - Hey you don't need to pay a licence fee!!

Register and stop whining about it!

you obviously registered, how is RICA going to combat crime?

The rampant paranoia in this thread is hilarious.

LOL♥

I did the Rica With my Sons today at Vodacom And Asked What happens if You dont register NOW
" IF you want to keep your Old sim Card YOU pay R1,000 "
IM getting a SMS every other Day saying its the 31 December NOW IM Registered I hope they Stop ;-)

Actually the RICA deadline has been extended for another 6 months, so nothing will happen if you don't register now.
