Rick Perry

No it isn't. They aren't prohibited to pray, just prohibited to pray in schools. You want to pray, go to church.

You see, that is why I'm with Ron Paul on deciding to abolish the Federal board of education. If you have a law passed like that then you're bound to offend someone. Let the states decides on what the law should be and if you don't like it (I probably won't like praying in schools) then go somewhere else.

Because it's a school, not a place of worship ?

And to be fair, I doubt there would be tolerance of muslims taking breaks every couple of hours to leave their lessons and go face Mecca ....

A prayer before class in the morning isn't really going to disrupt the education system as a whole.

Yes, but one every few hours is going to disrupt. Is it OK to tell a Christian they can do their prayers but not a Muslim? That would be against freedom of religion.

Good luck with that. Separation of Church and State is the First Amendment to the Constitution.

And it's a good thing.

It is a good thing yes, however they should also have a separation of education and state. That does about just as much harm.

That's a different issue, and one I don't agree with, especially since it would give the more "Christian" states the power to teach Intelligent Design in schools.

I do think that'd be a fantastic idea in South Africa though.

8 out of 10 people in the US are christian, which makes the stance even more unfair.

Look I'm an atheist myself, but I just don't think it is fair that if a 100% Christian community (and there are some in the states) wants to pray in school then they shouldn't. Let the decision rest with the parent governing body (if they have such a thing).

I don't think there should be prayers in the public school system of America, hell no.

In private schools, it's obviously no issue.

I agree that it wouldn't do much harm, but it opens the door to much more dangerous ideas. Already in the US, some states have made it mandatory for some people in state positions to have certain religious beliefs.

Surprisingly no one would probably live there.

I bet those states have the lowest population in the USA.

No idea, though it'd be easy to check.

These states are Texas, Massachusetts, Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

2 out of 10 aren't, thus the rule to avoid treading on their toes.
Let people do what they want to do. If 8 out of 10 people are A, B can step outside if they want to.

Thats what happens, or used to happen in this country when i was in school. It isn't a big deal really and works very well. B love it, because they get to chill outside playing with their phones while the other poor sods have to sing stuff.

Nobody is talking about allowing people to leave class every 15 minutes to pray on their mats - that would obviously be unreasonable.

If that's a requirement of a religion? To leave every hour/two hours?

Rather ban all of it from schools. Pray on your own time. Schools are for education, not religion.
