To be clear: No. You can't tell what a person thinks of the US based on what they think about Trump. It's not justifiable to deny someone a visa because they think the president is a clown. If there's anywhere on the planet where thinking the president is a clown shouldn't invoke retribution from the state, it's the US.

It absolutely is. No non US person has the right to enter the USA.
Foreign relations is a function of the president and if Trump doesn't like your negative comments about the USA he has evry right to deny you access.

Just like you don't have to accept me into your home if you don't like me.

Except they have this unique recognised concept of the freedom of speech.

You're saying it's OK for the president of the US to not respect freedom of speech?

Freedom of speech for their citizens. Not freedom for the rest of the world to schit-talk them, who they must then be obliged to allow in. It's really not that difficult.

Furthermore anyone cheering on an assassination of one of their citizens can be deemed a security risk given what just happened. They can use whatever reason they want to deny anyone entry. If the American people disagree, they can vote someone else in...

American laws apply to Americans if you are not an American you do not get the same freedom of speech protection. You have no right to be there in the first place so practice your free speech in your own country.

It's part of their Constitution. They recognise it as a fundamental right.

It's undeniably hypocritical to deny entry to someone because he shared a JD Vance meme.

You have freedom of speech to say whatever you want. (Well SA is a bit more limited, you can get in trouble for racial stuff if it goes viral on social media.)

If you are a South African you have no right to enter the USA. You can speak freely in SA and the USA will not attempt to prosecute or drone strike you.

That is not hypocrisy. It is consistent.

It might be petty and silly to deny someone over a meme. But is is well within their rights and it is not hypocritical. There is no free speech question.

No it's hypocritical. If you recognise something like freedom of speech as important, then pick and choose when to apply it that's hypocrisy.

It's an exact example of a government taking action against someone because they chose to express themselves. That same government is also turning around and saying people should be free to express themselves without retribution from the government.
