Hell no they're not. Governments and individuals should never be expected to behave in the same manner. They don't pretty much anywhere on the planet. (seriously, name me one place on Earth this statement is true)

Governments need to cater to a wide variety of people in general society. To not unfairly favour one over another. They have whole legal systems founded on these principles. They have an obligation to the protection of all people within their borders.

There are plenty of scenarios in which the responsibilities of the government and the general citizenry are not aligned.

Individuals have no such responsibility. You want to treat your family different to other people? Go for it. You want to drive past an accident scene and not help? Go for it.

That is one of the dumbest things I've ever seen you write.

nobody's forcing you to celebrate Kirk's life, nobody is imposing their views on you, so what's the problem?

just as Kirk never forced anyone to listen to him, on the contrary, he invited opposing views and engaged in robust debate

it's the universal principle of liberty and free speech, nobody should care what anyone else does unless it actually directly imposes upon their own liberties

By division and hate you guys always mean everyone should agree 100% with your views and the person who doesn't agree is a BAD person.

I think you are a bigot and hateful for being vegan. Animals deserve to be eaten just as much as plants do. By not approving of meat you are just being hateful and not inclusive. Therefore you are actually a BAD person. But you don't deserve to be murdered for it. But if someone does murder you I'll just happily remind everyone you were a BAD person. Don't expect me to wail and weep.
