I need to add solar to an existing battery and inverter setup. The existing setup has everything needed for solar barring the panels themselves (fuses, surge protectors etc). I also want to add a second battery.

Current set up is an 8kW sunsynk inverter with a 5.32kWh sunsynk battery. Apparently paired together they double the warranty to 10 years.

The quote I received today is as follows:

The installer recommended selling the sunsynk battery and buying two new and matching batteries because the sunsynks are out of stock.

This all seems a bit wild to me. Any thoughts?

P.S. Photon voltaic lol. The installer is well known and respected in the community. Not a fly by night

5.1Kw Dyness lithium ion battery R13,420.00 (excl vat)
2 batteris will then be R30 820
quoted R45 310 so R14 490 for drilling some holes, making up battery cables and hooking it up feels excessive.

panels 455 W ... someone is getting rid of old stock

get other quotes

Thanks all. Whats a rough benchmark for the rest of the costs, frames, mounting hardware, cable, installation etc?

Lets say panels cost R25k, would a R50k quote all in be on the money?

I had 7 additional PV panels installed in June/July, here's the breakdown of costs:
7x535W Aiko black PV panels: R13 650
Aluminium roof mounting kit: R4550
PVC conduit, DC circuit breaker + surge protection, PV wires: R1980
Installation labour: R3200
Total: R26887 incl VAT

I had a similar setup
Sunsynk batteries are expensive even if available
So I replaced the 5kwh with a 16kwh Deye, battery was 32 I think and around 1k installation

Then I was quoted for additional panels, though yet to install
8 x I think 600w, R35k installed with all the necessaries

Is he having a laugh? This would've been fine for 2022, but nowadays nope, 455w panels? How old are they?

The second quote is in:

  • 12 x 635W JA Solar panels
  • 1 x 5.32kWh eenovance battery
Both installed for R64.8k.

My only concern is mixing the sunsynk battery with the eenovance one. Anyone done this before? Any affect on warranty?

I think you would be the first but according to AI, they are made by the same people and have same internals.
