RiSa and torrent website truce?

Hehehehe, this is only for poor people who discriminates between local and international bandwidth. UseNexT FTW !

Sounds like RiSA is running scared.

Worried a court case may introduce a precedent that will cost them dearly for their stupid take-down notices?

This doesn't make sense to me. They will never stop P2P because of the protocol's nature. People will now go to international torrent sites, using up international bandwidth. Its a indexing site with no illegal software hosted... so much for freedom of speech!!!!

This is just another example of a worldwide trend where dying dinosaur mega-corporations trying to defend an archaic business model are suing ISPs and websites and technologies because they have failed to keep pace with the times and give themselves an online presence.

All of these examples prove that the music and movie industry are in trouble. Their cash-cow is under threat. And it all could have turned out so differently if they had simply brought their product to the people at reasonable prices.

I've been wondering about this.

Perhaps BitFarm agreed to hand over user stats and data in exchange for immunity. That way RiSA has someone to go after and BitFarm get off clean.

...or am I just being paranoid?

The latter, I am sure. Mr. Buys would never do that, given the principles of his stand against them.

A POSSIBLE DEAL

Hi all,

We are in the process of preparing a draft memo of understanding for RiSA's consideration and I can assure everybody that we will NEVER agree to the disclosure of user data in return for something like immunity.

The sites did not infringe copyright or acted illegally and therefore no deal for immunity is necessary. We are negotiating a settlement from a position of power and recent developments in other countries only strengthen our position.

Will keep you updated with developments.

Regards,

REINHARDT BUYS

BitFarm requested that their users not upload anything to do with local music. That way they don't step on RISA's toes. Not that it was any kind of admission of wrongdoing... but when a baby cries over his spilled milk it is sometimes better just to coddle the infant and give him some toys to play with. Same kinda thing here. RISA whines like a little baby, we just play nicely with them so they don't get on everyone's nerves. The outcome of such a settlement will have little difference on RISA's income or "piracy" or anything at the end of the day. These are just the death throes of an old dinosaur that has failed to adapt. No worries.
