Rivian R1T and R1S get cheaper, dual-motor standard battery pack options
Rivian has silently added a cheaper option to its online configurator for both of its models. This has dual motors and a standard 105 kWh battery pack, which is quoted at being capable of delivering 435 km on a charge.
The R1T with this configuration starts at €68,000, which is €14,000 less than the quad-motor variant. Some people are also seeing this version with a 135 kWh battery pack and 21" wheels for either €65,000 (the lucky ones) or €75,000.

Rivian R2 to be introduced on March 7
Rivian's R1S and R1T have gotten their fair share of praise from owners and reviewers alike, but the starting prices make them anything but affordable. The company knows this and is planning on introducing the R2 - a smaller and much more reasonably priced SUV, that was initially intended to start at around €37,000 (but that was last year, the number may have changed in the meantime).
It looks like Rivian is planning on announcing the R2 at an event on March 7 in Laguna Beach, California. The company hasn't officially revealed the date, but it has filed for an approval with Laguna Beach City Council to use a public beach area near its flagship store the afternoon of March 7. As part of the filing, a document showing Rivian's intended use of a grassy area was titled "RIVIAN R2 LAUNCH".
Interestingly, the company has since withdrawn the request, following some opposition from locals. But that doesn't mean the event is canceled - Rivian can just use its flagship store (which used to be a theater and still has an event space complete with a stage and screen), as it doesn't need any permission for that since it owns the place.

Consumer Reports: Rivian is the most loved car brand for 2023, Tesla down to fifth
Consumer Reports' annual owner survey is out, and Rivian takes the lead as the most loved brand of all car makers, scoring 5 out of 5 stars. The brand also pulls ahead in the "owner would buy again" ranking, with 86% of the owners saying they would buy another Rivian-made vehicle in the future.
The results from the questionnaire are surprising to some extent, as Consumer Reviews produced a negative review of the R1S, saying it's one of the worst cars of 2023. But apparently, consumers loved it. Rivian ranked first or was among the first in various categories - comfort, driving, cabin storage, and ownership cost, which includes fuel and maintenance. Admittedly, EVs usually rank well in that last category anyway.
The only category in which Rivian was assessed poorly is the usability of the interface, likely due to the heavy reliance on the digital touchscreen and the lack of analog controls.
One of the reasons why Rivian ranked well ahead of its competitors, including Tesla, is probably due to Rivian's size as a brand. It competes with only two vehicles, as opposed to more established brands, which can have good and bad models. Additionally, customer service of smaller brands tends to be better.

Just yesterday Rivian finally announced the date for its grand unveiling of the R2 - its more affordable SUV that should be much cheaper than its first SUV, the R1S. The R2 will be getting official on March 7, most likely in Laguna Beach, California, where Rivian's flagship store is located.
Today the company has started the teaser campaign for the upcoming model, with the X post you can see below showing its driver instruments display through the steering wheel.
