Rocomamas / Boston Burger Co.

I've seen some people say that Rocomamas aren't that great. I don't know where they've eaten because I love their burgers. The one here by us also serves craft beers.

i ate at rocomamas in DBN , comparing beef burgers to beef burgers and CPT has woodies which is way better

and i have heared there is better burgers than woodies as well

+1 Just along the road from me.

Honestly, I've never had a better burger - especially at that price. I don't want strawberries and all sorts of nonsense on a burger, classic bacon and cheese, you can't beat it

Have you tried the new branch opposite the Waterkloof golf course?

Don't think you've been to a Spur in awhile, they've not had the horrible cow seats for quite sometime (well in the last 3 to 4 years). We used to be regulars for the Monday night burger special and the breakfasts and the one down the road from us has a massive playground and the specialility burgers weren't bad at all. But we've not gone in awhile as the prices have gone up quite a lot and for the same price as their breakfasts I can get a much better one at Pizza Del Fornos.
I've eaten at two different Roco Mamas and I don't see the appeal, the chicken burgers are dry and the beef is over sauced, for the price I'd rather look at other burger places.

Was at a Spur less than a month ago.

Pretty sure they had the cow seats, but if they weren’t cows they were equally horrible.

But the food has always been terrible.

That being said I haven’t been to RocoMamas in probably this year.

But I’ve been to one in Jo’burg and two different ones in Cape Town and it’s always been a good experience for a franchise.

As with most things it’s probably been branch dependant. Taste aside of course.

I will never eat at RocoMamas again until I forget about this or I'm really hungry and they happen to be there.

Yaw. Swak. His not even using the thing they trademarked. Da **** is going on?

The fuuuuuu how do they own the term Smashburger. Was it not invented by the Americans

How do you trademark Smash Burger at all? Two common words together.

Like can I trademark Vet Burger? Biltong Burger? Coriander Burger? Cannabis Burger?

Stupid. Should not have been allowed.

Their burgers are slightly above average at best and hugely overpriced. No thanks.

Well that’s the joke of it all.

Their trademark is on “Smashburger” and even so they went after this guy for “smash burger”.

Not only is it a ridiculous because it’s a style of cooking, but also the single works smashburger is an American franchise so they clearly stole this trademark up front to block any potential future action for them in SA.

So they willfully go after exploiting and basically stealing a trademark, but then want to object of someone else does the same without intent and not even using the same words.

“Granted permission” nogal.

This is not a good look for these guys. Honestly, what’s a food truck compared to what the Spur Corporation has? This is embarrassing.

Lawyers making work for themselves. *shrugs* You can enforce patents and trademarks until you're blue in the face in any industry, but a better way to stay ahead of copycats is to deliver the best quality product with a level of service that your loyal fans can't get anywhere else. There's lots of guys called Elon in the world, but only one is a billionaire. He's not a billionaire because of his name, but because only he does what he does. Personally I don't care about the negative PR for Rocomamas here (I'll buy their shoestring fries no matter what), but cooler heads need to prevail.

This is the kind of food I love, but how overpriced are these places?
I could live off BBQ food, ribs, wings and burgers.

400g Ribs is R140 without any chips or sides?
And the taste is OK, but not exceptional.

At those prices I would rather go back to Spur.

Spur Birthday special - 300 gram Ribs with chips and Onion rings for R50
(24 to 26 October only).

Oh, and Boston Burger serves alcohol (also bloody expensive), but Rocomamas doesn't.
Comparing Spur to Roccos is like saying the BMW is too expensive so you'll ride in an Uno of equal quality...
I haven't eaten at a Spur for over 2 years and have no intention to.

Except both those cars aren't produced by the same people.

Lol.

Spur = RocoMamas.

Also Spur isn’t any cheaper so the analogy doesn’t really work.

Bro the burgers at Roccos are amazing, they taste great and they have great flavor combinations.

Almost every plate of food at Spur tastes the same, and its basically all doused in the same sauce? You could eat the styrofoam container with sauce on it and it will taste like anything else on the menu.
