Roku 3 from Amazon

I have had a few spontaneous reboots and wonder if it has anything to do with the power :(

I bought my sister a cheap Chinese media player several years ago and it initially worked very well but started rebooting at random times. Initially I thought that it might be overheating but after replacing the power pack with a high quality HP unit it is now working reliably again. If you are using a 110V supply at 220V this would also increase the ripple which could cause random reboots. You could try to connect a 1000uF 16V smoothing capacitor across the supply terminals to see if this helps but it might be preferable to purchase a better quality supply that is rated for 240V.

Do you have any equipment connected to the USB port?

My 240V adapter working good. Just set it all up during lunch, it's a nifty little device and love the remote.

I ordered my Roku 3 the week it was released and all I did was plug it into a universal adapter I had lying around and then into my adapters and everything been working perfectly. Never had a single issue yet.

Not saying it won't work but I'll rather be on the safe side and use an adapter I know is rated to 240V.

Roku arrived today. It's a nice piece of kit, definitely worthy of upgrading my WDTV Lives.

Plex videos don't seem to be transcoding, just plain streaming. Thought I might have to upgrade my HP Microserver but not anymore :D.

Nice dude. Enjoy

I love these devices. As do the family. Simple to use, and they just work.

My fourth arrived yesterday to replace my last WDTV Live.

Got 3 Rokus. Just plugged them all straight into 220v and sorted. No issues. All from Amazon.

Weirdly, mine didn't work. Multimeter showed the output was 3V. Bought a fonkong adjustable voltage transformer from ACDC and luckily I tested it as at the 12V setting it was making over 20V. Got around 12V when I set it to 7,5V. Meant to get a decent transformer but it's been running fine like that for weeks now.

Weird. Tested mine too, was getting about 13.75V from the original adapter. My replacement adapter puts out just over 12V.

Has anybody seen the new feature on the ruko ios app? When you are in the app select "play on roku" and you can instantly watch all your video's and photo's on you TV!

They still don't have an iPad app

iPhone apps look lame on the iPad.

You need to put a load across those supplies to get a proper indication of the output voltage. The long term failure rate of Roku's appears to be high as the company only offers a 90 day warranty. Their website has a large number of refurbished XS and XD machines on sale which presumably failed within the 90 day warranty period. Many customers have also complained about the high case temperatures of some of the Roku 2 and 3 models after being left on standby for several hours. Consequently I would be hesitant to leave one of these devices on standby 24/7 particularly if the power supply is only rated for 110V.

Looked for the Roku Android app but couldn't find an official one. Turns out it's blocked for SA.

I must say my roku 3 player is frustrating the living crap out of me. Is this thing supposed to be so difficult to use...? It's like it connects when it feels like it. I was switched off yesterday and after switching it on it gives me an error 009. Now this is supposedly some issue with the router and dns settings but I don't know how to fix it. It also seems to only pick up plex when it feels like it as well. So currently it's just sitting there with me contemplating what the hell to do. Annoying.....

No simply using plex app to stream my content from my pc to the roku. Connected via LAN cable.

1st do a reset. If that doesn't work then try giving it a static IP.

It should be just plug and play.

At first it was plug and play. Now it's plug and replug and disconnect and restart and unplug and replug then restart with no play :/
