Hi All

For those of you who have bought the Roku 3 from amazon please help with the following.

1. How much where the import duties?
2. Was it delivered to your Post Office or is it couriered to your door?
3. How long did it take to reach you?

I am really keen on getting one.

1. I didn't pay any import duties (not that I am aware of)
2. Postbox-Courier delivered it to my work address.
3. 10 days, that included a weekend. I bought mine from Amazon.com. The exchange rate was a bit better at the time.
(it also takes a bit longer as the device is sent through to Postbox-Courier Head Office in the UK and then couriered to your SA address.)

Same, but had it shipped directly with Amazon. They included import duties in the calculation. Was about R1300 including delivery at the time.

Same here. Shipped directly with Amazon and was delivered within a week to my door. No import duties added (Amazon have some sort of import fee you pay and then you good to go)!

Also ordered direct from Amazon and had it delivered to my door in about 10 days. $15.97 for shipping and $15.40 for customs coming to a total of $131.36

Ugh man!
Too many choices.
Saw the Futubox thread. They have a set top box that looks to rival the Roku.

It connects to futubox (of course) and is a PVR. Am I correct in saying the Roku doesn't hava a PVR function?

Roku or Futobox Set Top Box ?

I'm also looking for streaming service that does the International rugby, e.g. Super rugby, B&I Lions, Springbok rugby.
Am I stuck with DSTV?

The Chinese manufacturers have started producing cheap dual core Rockchip based devices for around $50 (including shipping) which are also worth considering. These machines seem to address most of the faults of the USB stick designs such as the weak WiFi antenna, lack of an ethernet port, no composite video, overheating due to small form factor etc. If you register on Aliexpress and make an enquiry you should receive a $4 off coupon in your e-mail.

I placed my order for a Roku from Amazon on Friday (14/06/13), current delivery estimate says due to arrive on July 1st.

W.R.T Import duties, when you place your order with Amazon they charge you with a Shipping and Delivery Fee and a seperate Import Duties Deposit which estimates how much the Duties will cost. Here's more info.

Ordering just the Roku 3 and delivery to Randburg, Johannesburg gives you the following cost breakdown:

Items: ZAR 1,013.79

Shipping & handling: ZAR 163.54
-----------------------------------------------------------
Total before tax: ZAR 1,177.33

Estimated tax to be collected: ZAR 0.00

Import Fees Deposit: ZAR 156.16
-----------------------------------------------------------
Order total: ZAR 1,333.49
-----------------------------------------------------------

Will give more feedback when it arrives.

Quick Question to all the Roku 3 owners... I saw that the formats that the Roku can handle is quite limited. Is that correct? From what I understand it will not be able to play an avi file (for example) on my NAS.

I currently use plex to trans-code and have added the Plex channel, works awesome, even streamed 720P from my laptop to the Roku via a Huawie MiFI router

Anyone?

Been sitting without a media player for a few weeks now and think I have decided on a Roku 3.

Regarding delivery from Amazon, how does it work? Do they deliver via the Post Office?
