Sweet thankyou. I see you also watch storage wars :) cant beat auction hunters though.

I watch that too. Property Wars also good (took a bit to get into it). American Restoration also a goodie. Oh - an American Pickers.

Sigh... I watch too much TV.

Do you think the ROKU is adequate to replace XBMC.

Thinking of removing my Microsoerver with XBMC and putting everything onto my i7 with Plex media server which is on 24 / 7. leave that in the study and put the roku on the main tv. my second tv already has the plex client. would hate to lose XBMC but dont see the point on having both on all the time.

I had a Microserver, then I had a Raspberry Pi, then I had WDTV Lives, and now I have 3 x Roku's.
Everything else has been sold off except one WDTV Live which is in my wife's home office. This to be replaced by a Roku too - soon.

Oh - also had an Apple TV 3. That never lasted long in my house either.

Oh again - also used to run Plex on my Samsung bluray player. Worked well except the menu's were laggy. Was pretty good though. Now the bluray player sits there watching us hoping someone will make use of it one day. My kids rented a movie about a month back and had to first check if we still owned anything that played discs :) That is how infrequently we do that kind of stuff now. No DSTV. No Video shops.

I used to run Plex Server on another Microserver. It choked with too many HD streams though so I put in a Quad Core Xeon 3.2Ghz machine with 8GB RAM and 10TB storage. Can run as many streams as we like now.
I initially had Plex Server running on my i7 desktop and it did the job well... Until... The kids were on school holiday! lol.
Plex transcoding videos and stuff while I was trying to work during the day was not kewl. I could feel it. So I setup a dedicated machine for downloading and media serving. All sorted now.

We use the Roku's for Plex Media Center, Hulu+ and Netflix. All 3 of them work brilliantly with zero hassle.

In short - yes. Roku replaces XBMC with ease. In fact - it replaces everything with ease.

awesome. going to do it. yep, i have a 3d blu ray player that has not been used (not once) so know what you mean by that.

I too am pondering investing in a few Rokus. The WDTV Live interface is starting to seem dated.

Pre-owned from some dude that cannot see the value in them, or directly from Amazon :)

yeah Mikey, you still enjoying it. I actually like the variety of having a Roku 3 and a jailbreak ATV2. XBMC gives me so much choices and variety. I hope they going to get xbmc on the Roku soon. That will be the best setup with the ATV2.

Those ATV2's are so scares like chicken's teeth nowadays.

Ya - seen some guys selling them for around R2k cause of the demand. Sigh.

Talking about the Plex ui on Roku, I must say it is really dated and does not compare to the ui on my Samsung Smart TV.

I wouldn't call it dated, I think it's just a Roku UI design philosophy that's meant to keep things simple. Pretty much all Roku apps look like that.
