Romantic relationships with work colleagues

Never a relationship, but had a few NSA things going at a place I worked at in the past. It was great for a while, but the inevitable jealousy crept in eventually. I probably wouldn't have done it if I had planned to stay at the company long-term though.

Did it once. Was back in mid 2019/early 2020.

We first met when she was a consultant for a 3rd party company. She was based up in JHB and I in Cape Town. So whenever she was down in Cape Town we'd hook up and it was casual. Company I worked for ending up poaching her.

This meant she'd start coming down to Cape Town more and spending weekends. So whenever she was down we'd go out for dinner every night, jolling on the weekends, she met a bunch of my friends, met my mother. We were both single and never put a label on it, but we were definitely exclusive. One weekend she even bought a plane ticket out of her own pocket and flew down just so we could spend the weekend together.

Anyway 2020 arrives and she offers to fly me up to JHB for the Easter weekend to meet her parents and all her friends. As we all now we go into lockdown and don't end up seeing each other for 6 months (we still spoke everyday.)

When I did see her 6 months later I could tell things had changed on her side. She turned around at dinner one night and said she'd rather just prefer to go as friends (she completely forgot to mention she had started seeing some dude who's absolutely loaded.)

Fast forward to now and we still both work for the same company. See each other when I'm in JHB and her in Cape Town. Keep it polite but professional. We haven't spoke personally or gone out for drinks/dinner since she ended things.

So yeah it's def possible.

maybe if you ate peanuts and dates you could have been loaded ..but what do you know

I reckon just do what makes you happy. If it doesn't work out, there's always other jobs and or other people.

Many broken marriages ended up with co-workers looking to taste some forbidden fruit and only regrets.

Not worth it unless you have a watertight exit strategy.

Buddy of mine had an affair at work - porked her "on the job".
Ended with her husband threatening my friend, their affair being aired in a local newspaper and his wife causing more drama than a telenovela.

As for me... 2 reason why not:
1) I'm too stupid to try,
2) I look like Shrek.
