Isotherm comes in @ R370 for a 6sqm roll from Builders ... that's R62/sqm before installation cost (or the personal effort of DIY) is taken into account... Not exactly cheap.
Anyone have an idea what the spray foam insulation costs?

All depends if you want to do it yourself or have someone do it for you.
If you want to do it yourself I've had great success with Isotherm (buy the thickest one you can and score the sound insulatoin benefits).
If you want someone else to do it get that stuff they just come and spray in the roof which is like pieces of foam basically.
Don't have any major rat issues with Isotherm. I've had like one in the roof in 6 years and I think that's pretty normal for any house.

I was really gonna go the DIY Isotherm route until the quote came in from Builders and the price is now looking almost the same as getting cellulose fibre installed for me (no work on my part).
I keep hearing (...reading, actually) that spray-foam is the best, but it's expensive.
Thing is, nobody says how expensive.
Do we get any spray-foam DIY kits locally?
I was just thinking (if spray foam is expensive): Why spray-foam the whole ceiling when there's companies already selling foam cut to your size preference... maybe I can buy foam board and line the ceiling with them and then just get a DIY spray kit to fill in the gaps where the foam panels meet the wood.
I'm busy looking into it now.
I know whichever option I choose will pay for itself over time (...so the cost will be inconsequential in the long run), but with my 110sqm ceiling, I'm just not in the position to drop >R7k on this if I have to go with cellulose or isotherm

Not sure where you are but I bought my Isotherm at Brights instead of Builders for a huge saving.
Think it was < 3k for about 100sq. But that was in 2010.
I wouldn't over think it too much to try do both.

I may be the last person to know this, but I've just discovered that a Jhb company makes an Isotherm clone (for lack of a better way to describe it) and it costs less.
It's called "Think Green" ... does anyone have experience with it?
The installer I contacted said that it's basically the same thing, but it's cheaper cos it's a small local company and doesn't have the same brand awareness that Isotherm does.

I used a company in Cape Town called Eco-insulation. To do 80m2 of my roof, with 130mm of the cellulose stuff they pump in cost abt r6k. This was in Nov or Dec last year and it is way better than the blue-ish insulation they took out. I highly recommend them.

Got it at the same price back in July, so at least the price hasnt increased
Temperature in the house generally increased by 4 degrees overall, which i found pretty pleasant, considering it was sitting at an average 11-12 degrees in the morning and at night in some rooms.
