Rooney Is A Cheat!

THIS is certainly NOT a penalty or a dive.

Lemme check the pen against Arse again, though I am sure of what I said...

check it ;)
and you will see him falling over before the contact

as for this one against slovenia, you're right it wasnt a penalty or a dive but why was he appealing for a penalty?

There we go.

Clear penalty. No dive. Sorry bud, I just don't agree.

If there is contact its not a dive imho. So the one vs arsenal is not a dive in my book. Didn't see the one last night thought. Eduardo is clearly dive since there's no contact from the keeper.

I disagree. Its much more complicated than that.

You have to consider if Rooney had the ball under control, which he didnt. Also when contact is made.

Almunia only made contact with Rooney once the ball was in the stand but most importantly, only AFTER Rooney started simulating a dive.

No. Rooney went to ground expecting contact. It was not great, but he had hardly starting going to ground when he got taken out by the keeper. No Penalty. Maybe a dive.

What Eduardo did was way way different.

:)

Fixed!

yea, thats not a dive... just a blatant foul by rooney... dont know what he was appealing for. Should get a ban for appealing and trying to deceive the ref. As Ferguson came out and said, if we saw this for eduardo, will we see it for all players as well? I hope so. He should get a 2 match international ban. They have to keep some sort of level of consistency, i see wenger starting a big fight here if nothing happens to rooney.

Rooney was looking for contact like any good striker will do. For me its not a dive if there is contact. You can disagree is much as you want but that's my opinion on diving.

Point is stefan, i agree players look for contact, but if you ACYUALLY go down before contact. That is a DIVE, no matter how you try to twist it.

If a player falls with no contact like what Rooney did. That is a DIVE.

Thinking about it, what you are saying makes absolutely no sense.

So what if a striker falls before contact is made but he lost control of the ball already? Would that be a penalty in your books?

Rooney had no control of the ball, before Almnuina touched him - he was already going to ground trying to deceive the ref.

If that isnt a dive, then i dont know what is.

*Sigh

Had he not gone down would Almunia have taken him out? Yes. The Eduardo case is different. Get over it.

The end.

I just want to clarify something. While it's actually debatable whether it was a dive or not - do you think the penalty (and I'm specifically referring to the Arsenal one here) should have been awarded? I think the penalty was harsh whereas the difference between fishing for penalties and diving is a very thin line which can be debated forever...

PS: Carry on like this and you know how it'll end up... Watch it dude...

I do think it was a penalty. I think Almunia was foolish to come out and go in like that when there was a covering defender, Rooney was not really going anywhere, and woul dhave been booked for diving if he had to taken him out. But, as it stands it was a pen.

PS: I know what you mean. But I will not back down just because of that...

Fine, I'll leave it at that. I still think it wasn't a penalty but I'm experienced enough to know not to argue with United supporters :p

@PS: It's not about backing down - it's about choosing the right words to nullify any potential backlash. Just saying...

Seeing as I have seen countless penalties given for less yes I think it was a penalty. a Debatable one yes but still a penalty in my book.

Once there is contact there is a penalty in my book. Once a player is taken out inside the area its a penalty for me whether he has already lost his balance is irrelevant since there's no way for me to know he will regain his balance or control of the ball if he isn't taken out.

True story.

I understand what you are trying to say but i still disagree.

reason being, Rooney went down in a diving motion before any contact was made. The same motion Eduardo went down when he dived.

I wished you watch that episode of ESPN Press pass - i dont know if you watch the programme. They slowed the incident down frame for frame, clearly showing Rooney throwing his body off the ground and clearly showing Almunia not even CLOSE to him.

That for me is decieving the ref and he should be booked for diving.
