DStv owner under siege

MultiChoice is facing an uncertain future with declining broadcast numbers, and its strategy around new revenue streams is far from being a sure thing.

Market researcher Nielsen has revealed that the time people spend watching cable and broadcast channels has fallen to less than half of all TV viewing.

Why would anybody keep their DSTV subscription active when you can pretty much watch any series or movie online for free, if you know where and how to? Same thing with sport, so many sites out there where you can stream for free.

Only reason I can think of is if you're addicted to Afrikaans soapies, then KykNet is a must. Otherwise just cancel your subscription like I did years ago.

People voting with their wallets.
Take away streaming on two devices has hit them hard.
Sport only package price is what is required.

Yup, everything besides sport is done better by the competition.

That said, sport is their biggest expense, so don't expect a sport-only subscription to be a lot less than what you are paying now.

Even large streaming providers like Disney+, Warner Bros. Discovery and HBO Max struggle to make money.

In March, The Media Leader reported that major streaming services from Disney, NBCUniversal, Paramount, and Warner Bros had reported losses in excess of $18 billion since 2020.

Lol, not difficult to figure out why. Go woke, go broke.

Once again the Sports only package isn't going to be cheap, it will still probably be around R699, as the majority of the price is due to Sports rights.

Yeah the stupidest move during high levels of loadshedding, lets restrict streams, that will sort us out...

Here's some free advice: Allow me to restart a live show from the beginning, on the DSTV Stream app. Every time I go there to watch something, it has already started and I wish I could stream it form the beginning.

That "free" is an illusion, sooner or later the market will find a way to stop much of the leak. They already could prosecute for some of it, just not a safe bet so they're not.... yet.
